The Service The Service The Service Yes, I've finally received my invitation to medical examination a few days ago since I will "have to" go to service next year right after high school. Frankly I've been studying military tactics since I was 13 because my brothers gave me their Serviceman's manuals after they had completed their service. I really wish to be there for a year for leadership training. Now the reason of creating this thread is that I'll be uploading images and news of my service once it finally begins. I'm hoping to receive a camera as a Christmas present, to ensure the quality of the photographs. I'll probably take plenty of photographs but naturally I cannot upload those that contain national secrets. I'll just let this thread to collect dust until there are events regarding to my service, but I'll always ansrew questions regardless of those events.
Finland has a compulsory military service, which mean that all men have to go to service for 6,9 or 12 months, unless you have serious health issues or if you are a Jehova's witness. Now if I'm "lucky", they might place me somewhere where's -40 degrees celsius during winter.
Holy crap dude, always wanted to be some sort of millitary personnel (sniper). Good luck in the academy!
I was so happy that I didn't got accepted (no, I am not sick, I just knew how to fail the medical examination ) I believe, especially in Austria, that the compulsory military service is just useless and a waste of money. Don't hate me
Haha, enjoy your stay, I guess. (And let us know what kind of function you'll be selected for) (Avoid the infantry ;D)
2/2016 Depends, if I get chosen to the leader training I will be serving for a year and train newcomers. Which I really hope because it would be very beneficial for me in the future. I have a minor hollowed chest, which really affects my health (I cannot run without my guts hurting because of the lack of oxygen), thus I could easily fail the medical examinition but I wouldn't do that, I would miss so many experiences. But I kinda agree that military service is kinda uselles in Austria, since you don't live next to Soviet Union/Russia with a population of only 5 million people. I kinda feel proud that back in the day, we used to have over 700 000 soldiers for battle. Sorry, govermental secrets
If you ever get the chance to fire a minigun, make sure to film it while yelling YATATATATATATATATATATATATA like heavy does. Best of luck in your military career!
Yep. Women have the option to do military service or not. IF they join the army, but dont like it the first 60 days (I dont remember the correct numbers anymore, becuz reservist. Its something like that.) Women also get couple of cents higher daily pay.
Women are treated equally if they decide to go to service. Their salary is slightly larger than men's because military doesn't/cannot distribute some of the clothing that women wear. Otherwise there's barely any difference between men's and women's service.
That's probably because equality is less important than practical affairs. Women have less muscular strenght and endurance on average compared to men. This makes men superior fighters. Training everyone would make military training more costy and would make soldiers more weak on average, which nobody wants. Besides, only about 400 women volunteer for military training each year, this could indicate that women aren't really interested in compulsory military.
