I have a cancerous unusual (steaming prancer's pride) right now, I want to know if it worth the effort to try and upgrade it to a better one. Or is it better to sell it and buy lotsof other stuff?

The reason I bought a unusual is that I completed all my desired loadout for all the classes and I didn't know what I wanted to buy anymore and it got boring. I don't know if I will make any profit with unusual trading because I'm kind of impatient and I tend to lose value in trades. Maybe I need to stick with the pride, steaming looks awesome with the aspect. Idk, I need your advice:/

Stick with promo items, the price of unusuals is dropping cuz valve adds more and more tiers.
And as you said, its hard to sell them again, you need to find the right person so you can make profit.

Unusual trading is a very long and tough process, and you always need to look around the market.

Onv is into the unusual trading stuff, you could ask him for advice :)

Depends on what youre going to do next.

Do you want to sell the unusual to get a better one (sell again/keep it)? => for buds or other promos(try to avoid unusual offers, only use them as c/o)
Otherwise sell for real world money though this is a pretty difficult option.

Some golden rules when trading for cash:
    1. Take your time. Even if the trader says he hasnt that much time (stay frosty! might be rip-off)
    2. Look around the market. Try to get a picture of how much your unusual is really worth.
    3. Most importantly look at his reputation. If he has no rep at all or just 1-2 persons repping him dont do the trade. Might be scam!

If you have trouble you could use a trusted middle-man who is going to exchange things correctly.
There are some scammers imitating these middle men so be careful and report them immediately

Flaming Fedora is worth a ton. Expect to get a lot of stuff.

well i think im gonna sell it for cash, but i am too scary to get scammed :/

who will make the first step? shall i give him the hat and then he will give me the money or the other way?
is there an option how i can get the hat back if i got scammed? for example: while trading, i could record what hes doing and send it to steam.

It's better to get rid of it, because I think it's only worth 1 buds worth. But still 1 buds is not that much so you also could keep wear this hat. If you want 1 buds, then it's most likely the best option.

But it's still your own decision!

It's better to have a middleman in this situation, because scamming is very easy to do. But you can also see if the buyer is a trustable person with a good reputation! Go to steamrep.com and see if he's a trustable.

Or just keep this hat, because it's a very nice hat and most likely it will not worth lesser very soon. Just keep the hat or get some nice offers in buds for it. But thats just my opinion.

He is just keeping item(s) from Party A and he is keeping the cash from Party B and when he gets everything he will give the cash to Party A and the item(s) to Party B. It's just a small example, I hope you got it!

And indeed, just wait untill someone wants to give what excites you! :)

No, only go to a middleman who you can trust. On steamrep there are only 3 trusted middelmen, so thats not likely that they will be middleman for you. So I advice not to use a middleman and wait. :)

Middleman NEVER holds the money. Procedure is as follows:
    - Find a middleman on SteamRep, listed Community Admins middleman as well btw, depends on the person.
    - ask him to middleman for you.
    - Middleman will verify the both aren't listed scammers, if listed scammer on either or both he will refuse, if caution, that may be ground for middleman to refuse as well, also middleman may refuse for arbitrary reasons that he thinks some is amiss with either buyer, seller or both.
    - verify YOURSELF on Steamrep the Middleman is real, dont EVER trust a link given by anybody in that regard. look up YOURSELF, thats the ONLY protection.
    - Trade the item(s) to the middleman.
    - The buyer sends you the money, check on your paypal if it arrived (never check the email for it can be a fake email, check on paypal itself). Its YOUR responsibility to provide the CORRECT paypal address. as its the buyers responsibility to use that given address, EVEN IF ITS INCORRECT, for he is considered to have paid if he send the money to the given paypal address.
    - Verify that you actually received it (one can send a "bill" which sometimes is perceived to be a "payment" while nothing is received).
    - Notify the Middleman of the result: received money or not etc
    - Middleman will give item(s) to the buyer.

If a dispute arises, Middleman holds the items till its clear what went wrong. If No money is send, but the buyer says he did send it, both will need to send screenshots of paypal to the MM. Such can take a long time, there are cases where the "evidence" was so good shopped, it took days to sort out. A tip to this is to have a random number of cents added/subtracted on the agreed price, so pre-made Photoshops wont cut it.

Middlemanning is a lot less atm due Valve's policy's. Scammers have offered scammed/hijacked items for sale via alt accounts, and tried to implicate middlemen to get them Valve Trade Banned.

To reduce risk of being scammed:
    - Trade your high value unusual to promo's (buds, bills)
    - trade promo's to keys
    - sell keys in small batches.
If you do this right, it even offers you a better margin. Altho it costs time.

Thanks for clearing things up DataStorm! I thought the middleman was also keeping the cash, but I was wrong. Now it's clear!

Yeah you could, but I think several topics will help people earlier then make one big topic...

@ Rep: Unusual for bmoc? I don´t think thats a good idea cause most people want bills/keys/buds. These are the "common" ways to trade your stuff for. I don´t expect many people to buy a BMOC just because it is christmas. ATM the price of 1BMOC is about 13-15keys, correct me if I am wrong.
Bought my BMOC with pink Bills for 18scorched keys so I think I would make some profit if I would sell it.

    Greetings, Snob
