48÷2(9+3) Let's see if this forum knows how to fix this. It's posted on a lot of forums lately and it's usually a 50/50 split.
Left to Right is (48/2)x(9+3) = (12)x(12) = 288 Mathematically its 48/(2x(9+3)) = 48/(2x12) = 48/24 = 2
Are you sure? As long as he doesn't put brackets around the "2(9+3)" the "(9+3)" will go with the "upper part", and not with the "lower part" of that thing I thought. Edit: Just tried it with my calculator, and it thought the same as me. (Well, "thought")
After doing it myself I ran a check with my calculator Spoiler one of these guys: It "knows" the correct mathematical orders. And 288 came out. So I think Khad is wrong and Knightmare is right
Thread goes faster then I imagined. Spoiler 288!
But 48/(2(9+3)) =/= 48/2(9+3) As it is written here, it's like this: 48/2*(9+3) 48/2*12 24*12 288 wiki <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations</a>:

So? That makes a) Brackets 48÷2(12) b) Divison 24(12) c) Multiplication 288 P.S. AFAIK it's Brackets - Exponents - Division & Multiplication, Addition & Subtraction

Pablo: I'd just say that Multiplication and Divison don't have precedence over each other, but that you use left to right for them. 5*6/8=(5*6)/8 5/8*6=(5/8)*6 (Not that it makes any difference in this term.)
