Panelists debate whether games like Fallout 3, Gears Of War 2, Left4Dead, ... are teaching children skills they'll really need when the Apocalypse strikes, what's your opinion?

    Who cares?
    It's entertainment.
Never had a panel seen doing a discussion on what kids can learn for the ''apocalyptic'' future by programs like ''deal or no deal'' or Topgear ;)

apart from the exaggeration in this video I really do believe that vdeo games are a great way to teach children stuff.

Not games like L4D on how to blow zombie brains out, but for younger children to learn counting, language basics, topography, basical lines of history.

Look at me, I grew up playing Red Cat games, and I enjoyed playing them. And I really learned stuff from those games. I hope to one day end up in the world of game development, and I can tell you that I would just love to make a realistic game that let's kids, or whatever person, for example move throughout history to follow the human evolution. Like spore, but serious. You can learn about dinosaurs, the stone age, iron age, ancient egypt and greece, you make your own timeline.

Games are proven to be a very good way to educate children. Maybe not for post-apocalyptic events, but if you really want to you might be able to make a game where you learn the player basics of survival. Has any of you seen the serie Jericho? Well you can know what I'm talking about.
