A judge has decided that two internet providers in the Netherlands will have to block all forms of the pirate bay for their users.

So it has officially begun. Censorship on the internet. SOPA is feeling a lot more threatening all of a sudden.

The two providers that are forced to limit the freedom of their users are Ziggo and Xs4all. They are going to appeal, but as for now, they'll have to shut it down.

The law has just been denied in germany.

Officially the government cant ban websites here.

Only in very, very specific cases (islamists or asking people to murder, etc) they ban sites if they cant take them offline i think.

I'm sorry for you guys :D

The thing is, the government didn't do this.

A private organisation BREIN, that fights author rights infringement, went to the judge and now they decide which sites should be blocked by Ziggo and Xs4all, as long as they can "prove" those sites are used by or as the pirate bay. That means that if BREIN gets a hold on depiraatbaai.be, they can add it to the list and Ziggo and Xs4all should ban it within 10 days, or they'll get a €250.000 fine.

    THAT is bullshit.

Nyaa also hosts for GGKTHX, Commie and tons of other fansub groups. Imagine them going down due to SOPA. GG already had to take their blog down, apparently.

It's not so much the practical consequences that bother, as the fact that something like this is possible in a country like mine.

if that would be banned here in belgium (or the netherlands) i demand they air all the anime they banned... they can't ban something that's not even licenced here. (ok dragonball but who the hell didn't see that on tv haha) and i don't think the people in japan care if we download fansubs or not xD (think only 10% of the viewers are outside of japan hahahaha)

Even if a lot of people in Japan watch anime, that doesn't mean that there are more anime watchers outside of Japan.
Your research cat has fucked up which facts it should research. You should fine an estimate of how many anime watchers there are per country.
