Oh hai! I wanted to tell you guys about some map I'm working on. as you can read in the title, it's going to be a dodgeball map. why?..I wanted to do something small I'm currently still working out the map and will try to create all the stuff necessary (light, player things etc) for the map later. Since I don't really like to start simple and jumped right into trying to create something worth full for a first map. everyone can create a square box with a line in between the teams with some models. but what was i'm going to create?...at one night i had this 'genius' idea and started sketching: As you can see it's quite messy and chaotic drawing. that's why I prefer to call it "Brain-art" The only thing it is useful for is to remind me what i wanted to do. So I first started to do a clean version, no debris, no damaged sides etc. After i was happy with that, i started to tear the side wall apart. after showing some pictures to a friend, he commented at the size of the playground. it should have some more 'run and jump' space for the players. So i edited it a bit. For now I still have to do the door and the other side that will be totally crushed and ruined by rocks and debris and the outside part from that damaged wall. I hope you liked my quick behind the scenes for my upcoming dodgeball map! P.S.: if you guys can come up with a better name, please tell me, this was just a working title xD
Good thinking to first start out with a sketch. You need a strucural way of working to plan a map in the first place Eager to see how it will end up!
is there perhaps a lava texture? because that might be a cool effect in the parts where the floor is gone.
Nah, I want to keep it like it's a loooong way down till you reach the end..if there is an end. I've placed some wood in it what you could see on the sketch too I've also finished the backside, it's a bit...broken down. and changed ceiling above the broken wall a bit.
Looks lovely, From a gameplay point of view, the celing looks a little low from that perspective. Ceiling hitting might not allow for fast rockets. I'm assuming it's not nuke only?
no i'm hoping for the solly rockets. might change it for the rockets to a more higher ceiling. but i'll see into that for the end. Little update, I've been working on my map again and started on the main gate. I was aiming for a stairway which would would be long and large. ofcourse this costed a lot of time, it was built out of a lot of brushes and the texturing of it made it very frustrating. the stairway (placed playermodels to give an idea how big it was): eventually I gave up and decided to create it on the same layer as the map itself. since the building was surrounded by sand (aka placed in a eqypt kind of setting) I wanted to create that the sand has flooded into the front entrance. I also thought about to put a bit of an story into the map. red is defending the building while blue is trying to take it over (in a dodgeball map..riiight) that's why i decided to create a feeling that blu digged the place up and found some red who where already living in the building. they're now fighting for which side may keep the building. Since the entrance is finished, i'm going to rebuild the broken wall and later on I add some details, lighting etc.
It's been a long time since I've posted an update of the map, but i can assure you it's almost done I've been rebuilding the broken wall and I think it looks pretty good now^^ 'Pyro approves!" Now I only have to do is giving it some lights and then I'm basically done!
looks awesome! although I still think the ceiling looks a bit funny... as if you are beneath the ground and quite obvious you're above it.
i think it's the texture of the ceiling that looks funny dunno why but it look out of place :? map looks nice tough maybe slap an other texture on the ceiling
what if I told you it looked a bit like this from outside? @bucket: but ok, i'll see if I can find another new texture. but not going to change it's rocky looking..other wise I would need change that whole ceiling (I don't like empty flat ceilings )
Second that, if it's a cave you must have a structure to suggest it's supported. Just check how valve makes their mineshafts etc. ( dustbowl)
still it's a WIP and it's a DB map so realy antf*cking (dutch: miereneuken) is kinda out of the question hahaha this is nothing compared to the layout of the map it still looks nice maybe upload it to fpsbanana or/and tf2maps for some mappers comment (because we don't know shit about mapping hahaha)
Nice work you did there, Jer would be awesome though if each time when a nuke explodes, some debris comes falling down. Maybe even in such amounts that it'll change the map lay-out over time Dynamic maps are awesome Or you could just simply raise a hill from the ground during a sandslide from the ceiling, so it looks like all the sands that comes down by the explosion stacks up, and allows people to stand on it (in turns on either RED's or BLU's side).
