English on TF2 servers

From now on I'll be asking/warning/slaying/muting/kicking people who do not speak English. That is not to say that one or two words in Dutch (or another language) for that matter is bad. It's about the endless (voice)chatter that's not good for the community, and especially for those who don't understand a thing of the language people are speaking in. Yes, there will be blood, and yes people will leave, but that's the nature of the game. Lethal-Zone should be European, not Belgian/Dutch primarly.

I've discussed this with Eric and now I agree with his vision. Anyone who has regrets about this issue, please post it here. Thank you.

i'm gonna reply once and only once here. if you guys really keep slaying, muting, kicking ppz for speaking dutch. then im sorry to say, but then i quit playing on L-TF2. and take all the regulars i know with me. my steam and irc is being spammed because you kicked, slapped, muted half the server. keep it a little funny for everybody. and think about it: the guys youre punishing right now are the ppz who play daily on L-TF2. but this is not fun anymore.

TF2 should be a fun game and not a game with 10000 rules. unless you want some random noobs on the server.

and btw before you kick and slap and .... get the message away were it states that the server is English/dutch.

it says the languages here are dutch/english.

and some people speak english in such a way I'd rather hear them talk dutch

its just not right to mute/silence half the server for no reason. as long as the server is stating Dutch/english, you got no point muting, silence-ing, gagging players. regulars will search for other servers. only thing we play on L-TF2 is beceause its a dutch server. if you join a spanish or russian server then they speak spanish, russian.

so keep it like it is. if 16 of the 24 are dutch, then its no point to speak english only.

Clearly states EU, was BE/NL a month ago, l2live with it, go adapt and take some english courses, you SHOULD be able to speak english with no problems nowadays. Can't handle it? you're dire

I honestly don't mind Dutch - I understand most of it. I just can't speak a word. But I really think people should be able to talk English well enough, they might as well use that.

As for the little kids who don't - they shouldn't be allowed to play the game anyway.

L-TF2 is one of the few dutch servers. we got plenty of english servers online. the strenght of L-TF2 atm is that it is a mainly dutch server. You gonna loose a lot of the regulars if you keep kicking ppz for speaking dutch. and its not only me stating this. watch and see. if you really want it english only, then do it. but be aware that a large amount of the belgian community wont play on youre servers ever again. and i'll quit as admin, donater etc. let us have fun. L-TF2 TF2 servers run quiet nice since the beginning of Tf2. so if you wanna keep it like this, then dont change the languages on the servers.

¿qué usted va a hacer si hablo solamente español en lethal-zone? ¡Sé para usted no tendré gusto sure de él!

The example i give here above is the same if a non-dutch guys reads your dutch command. Same guys slap/slay/kick players that are talking one of the biggest languange on earth, but exapt dutch.

So basicly i think the rule "only talk english if you voicetalk". I really dont mind if a players is talking spanish in the chat. We must exept that lethal-zone isnt only belgium/dutch guys... I keep getting money every month from german players that can understand any word dutch.. So going to dutch only server isnt a good plan and will only disappoint players like rookee, souljah, sniffa and offcours ben (but he is now days totally dutchmentised)

    so conclussion...

if somebody speaks dutch/english/spanish/chinees/turkish/rusian/france in the chat.. just leave it! dont slay kick or ban..

if players are starting to talk dutch in voice -> remind them of our ts where they can talk dutch the whole time... but after a while slay/kick/ban them.

owhh and i mean long conversations.. if you speak only a few lines dutch i wont mind it also (but this will be different from admin to admin)

if they play daily they will know the rules and rules need to be follow. btw.. my advice is to just warn and give them one kick! dont go in discusse with him. just say to keep the voice chat english for other guys.

remember that you need to fill the server 24 hours a day! kicking bannen etc is indeed not helping with this 24 hours fill. TF2 is a populair game, so it can handel a few bans, but the point where i wanne go is that you dont not need to be TOO hard for players.

In my opinion, regular chatter is as bad as voicechat. If there's too much of one language, even if no one complains, I will ask them to speak English. If not you have to accept the consequences. If I wouldn't be admin, I would probably not even ask for them to speak English, cause all I would hear is "fuck off, there's no admin around". And even if there would be, they probably wouldn't act at all. But otherwise, people get banned for very little, so it's either white or black. So yeah, I'm glad to be admin right now, so I can bring a mix.

At first, I thought we would lose a lot of regulars, but as far as I've seen, from yesterday, it were basicly 2 clans who were bichting about it: Rasta and BHD. That's says a lot in my view. Other Dutch people weren't irritated by the suggestion to talk English. I wouldn't mind that some clans would leave the servers (although there are some good players in them that aren't bitching).

Some said the admins messages were diffcult to read, or they didn't notice it. Maybe we'll fix this by giving the servermessages a different colour. But still, other people do notice them, so I think you're either very ignorant/blind or maybe it was an accident. But I did ask 3 times to talk English over a period of at least 10 minutes (over 2 maps I guess). Yes, then I started warning/muting/kicking.

I'm actually very forgiving towards you Belgian/Dutch people. Other people who spoke languages like Russian or German would get muted a lot quicker. That is not to say I mute instantly. First asking friendly, warning and then muting/kicking. In the case of yesterday some only got muted/kicked after like 5 adminrequests.

sorry for the rasta and bhd players to say (and no attack to badtouch).. but side has indeed a point. There are guys in those two clans that can really really really whine. I even heared one rasta players saying to me "i do what i want on this server".. lol? on MY server? he was telling me what he can and can not do on MY server. Didnt do something.. but i still remember it :). its just a example, we have lots of more whiners i can name of.

just one thing.. your right here too. IF players dont listening slap/slay them. But slay slap them to let them now they are wrong... dont make a to big point of it.

I have a remark on the Rasta clan actualy.
When S!de asked to speak English you guys were almost keeping us hostage with the threat that you guys would move to another server.
When Galanoth said in general chat that he was going to try and find a plugin that would force players to chose a random team (a few minuts later when everyone was waiting to join the red team :s), you threaned us again with leaving our server.
I don't think this is a good base from which we can build up a healthy community.
You will have to face that sometimes things will hapened that you don't like. Not because we like them, but because they are necesarry.

to protect badtouch, he is still a rasta, i want not to let this topic go more offtopic! If you want to discusse this, make a other topic. This topic is about english talk ;)

just quick reply about leaving the server. it was almost 20h so war time for rasta. and i agree with eric. why kick/slap them if they write in chat. i can understand that it is annoying for non-dutchies when people tell whole storys on voice chat. totally agree with that, but sidewinder was a little bit overacting on the server yesterday and such a things make me mad. if some english guys are busy on voice chat, then i'll always speak english too. just like i love to play with laggyluke. he's from russia and doesnt speak dutcht, so i speak english too. about rasta: idd, i know they arent all angels. some of them could whine from time to time, like we all do :p but then i talk to them just like i do with the bhd guys or anybody else.

my point is: just let is be fun for everyone and dont go adminning with the iron hand. from almost all the players i know is L-TF2 server their favorite and i hope to keep it that way.

maybe we should make a few statements in the admin forum what to do, so every admin is reacting the same way to problems. otherwise its gonna be a mess. ex: if you dont like a guy,you will mute/slap faster then when a friend of you does the same. that shouldnt be right. ex: i kicked arnold and springer a few times for laming and constant spawncamping. when im as admin on the server everybody is the same for me. clanmates, friends, non-friends etc!

    peace,

I try not to favor anyone I know, but in this case I give the privelege to Dutch people to give them some extra space to adapt. It's up to them to make their own decisions. LZ is a great community with good servers, but it's already from the beginning I was admin that the same people over and over are whining about virtually anything. And this time it's the " talking English" issue. I'd rather see them leave or drastically change mentality.

Just to make a quick example: some guys were talking in French, maybe 10 lines and then someone of my previous clan LRRP said they should chat somewhere else ("it's not MSN"). So yeah, I can understand this, but the same can happen to people not familiar with Dutch. If Lethal Zone grows, and it will, people need to understand each other, and English is the best way. Even the forum is in English.

to go on about what critical said, I really felt knocked down by the Rasta and BHD members when I told them about the force team plugin.

I really feel like some of them really don't give a f*ck about how the people/admins feel on the servers, all they care about is themselves.

I can't stand it when people keep waiting in line to join their clanmates/friends and then tell me I'm here to have fun !

in my eyes force team plugin makes it more fun cause its always a challenge, each map..but thats my opinion.

point about english...last time i talked english and they told me to speak dutch cause my english sounded horrible..and they didnt even dare to talk english..

this point i said to every admin i ever made on lethal-zone server. your task is to fill the server up 24 hours. You cant fill this server if it isnt a nice place to play!

I think this conversation is all because of a event happening yesterday? if so, just let it slip and keep on going.

I have to say as an English speaker, playing on the lethal servers I always accepted that there could be allot of Dutch at points. I don't mind it, so long as they aren't trying to tell me things then it doesn't really bother me. Most of the time if they feel it's relevant to the teams success they will say it in English.
