Eyelander without Targe?

I very often see demos using
    the Eyelander but no Targe.
Can any of the pro demo players try to
explain the pros of this weapon combination ?
Im gonna try this out later on, but -25 max hp
seems like a pretty big chunk missing.

I personally don't think it's of any use without the targe, but it all comes down on personal preference really.

If you tend to melee alot, and usually get a few bottle kills, it might come in handy due to the bonusses recieved for each head.

It's a rough round starter for sure, but IF you manage to get couple heads then you'll be one mean, fast moving sticky using Demoman.

Personally though, Targe + Bottle is more funny to use. ^^

The Eyelander without the Targe is useless.
You first need one swordkill to more or less even out the Eyelander drawback. Of course from two kills on it does become advantageous, but you rarely get two meleekills as Demo in one life and even then you still don't have the crucial charge and the protection against explosives and fire.

    -Con's
    No criticals on the eyelander.
    Less health at start.
    No reduced fire/explosion damage.

    -Pro's
    Stickies.
    Longer ranged melee weapon.
    Stickies.
Gives you extra health + speed on melee kills.
    Stickies.
    Intimidation factor.
    Stickies.

It's not really advised to do it since you lack the ability to get in fast, 'unseen' (not sticky jumping) and lose criticals on the weapon you want to kill with. But it gives you the sticky launcher wich is the weapon for demo's.

Don't you get the Eyelander first? Maybe that's just the case that they haven't unlocked the Targe yet.

As pyro I really hate the Demo/Eyelander/Targe

The reach of the eyelander is just baaaaaaaaaah... And the fireresistance of the targe is just beeeeeeeeeeeh... Hate the demoknight build.

aaah killing a demo with the eyelander is a piece of cake for pyro, just burn, blast, axe and DEAD! they wont be yelling about their fire resistance with an barb wired axe in their head xD

You get the Targe first, that's why you see some Demos charging at you with their Bottle. (and the even noobier ones with the Grenade Launcher, since they think it crits too.)

I use that combo of sword and stickies. I can't really play without my stickies, but the sword just looks soooo awesome! as a collector of replicas from medieval weaponry I ofc love swords ;)

IF you manage to take some heads, it will give you an advantage, but it's also better vs scouts. cuz the longer range and long swing makes it harder for them to jump over you and stuff.

demo is just a fun class for me anyway. not really play it that much.

And, with their low health and the possibility of them being already damaged, you can easily take them out for an extra head. Especially the foolish ones, that run up to you with their bat.
