Hello good people of this place, It's me again, this time with a little experiment/request for those of you who play prophunt. Far too often I hear people complain and bitch about maps and what they hate about them but never I've seen anyone really trying to do something about it and make one themselves. Now of course I know not everyone knows how to make a map let alone a decently playable one (heck, I'll be the first to admit that my previous two maps were far from perfect) and of course I also know how easy it is to bitch and moan on the internet instead of making a difference BUT here I am willing to give the whole map creating thing another go and this time with a construction style theme to it and hopefully with YOUR help. So here's my proposal to everyone interested: What would YOU like to see in a prophunt map based on a construction site? The map will probably be centered around two larger skyscrapers with the teamspawns somewhere in them, and a smaller one for the CP. What I'd like to know is, what are the elements of current prophunt maps you like? -Large outdoor spaces with line of sight blocking objects or more of an indoors kind of thing where you can't be seen directly from a single high place overlooking large parts of the map? -Overall playabe map size? Larger (like Storm or Brawl), smaller (like Maze or Headquarters) or something in between? -Lots of ways for scouts to get away or should every area only have a few entries/exits? -Should it be somewhere at the top of the skyscrapers (so you can fall to your death) or should it be based on ground level? -Functioning doors? do you like them or do you think they interrupt the gameplay too much? -Any hidden rooms, and if yes, should they be easily accessible or should you only be able to get to them via some clever thinking? I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to implement every single thing people might suggest (if I even get any useful feedback of course ) however I'll do my best to judge what people like the best overall and work from there. So if you have any comment on what you like and/or dislike about current maps (not just the above points), please tell me. So yeah, I know I won't be able to please everyone but if I can at least make a map that most of the people like then I consider my work here done and I can finally rest in peace (and by 'rest in peace' I of course mean, live happily ever after knowing someone out there likes what I did).
1.)I would like to see a map that is not too big or too small. 2.)Completely finished map, i mean i dont wanna see props hiding out of map or glitching out. 3.)A map that is balanced for both sides.
The only thing I hate about prophunt is scouts getting away to often, so I'd like a map that gives them better places to hide but less routes to escape. Easy noobcorners like the dark stairs at ph_headquaters or the trees at warehouse are nice too, free kills to everyone who played the map once The headquaters map has doors too and it never is a problem there. I think making it at the top would have a nice effect too.
I'm liking the new maps tbh, they're refreshing. Construction site? Probably paint buckets, scattered piles of wooden/metal planks so big props have a better chance. I guess concrete blocks would fit in nicely. I wouldn't mind seeing the big metal ramp/towers that appear in one of the saxton hale maps. On a slightly unrelated note: Is the 'Machina' intended to be usable in Prophunt mode? Just felt that it was odd that every other sniper weapon is disabled except it and the huntsman.
No, it is NOT supposed to be usable but its a new weapon and hasnt been restricted yet. We need an updated plugin for that. As for the map, something like this?
Alright, this is a start I can work with. So for now it'll hopefully become something average sized (I'm thinking Oasis size). All the action will probably be at the 'top' of the buildings (personally I like having the falling-to-your-death hazard in a map, it sometimes adds a little risk-reward kind of thing to playing it correctly if the map is made well) To be fair I personally think being able to get away is a large part of prophunt since, well, it's kinda in the name, it's not just hide and seek, you got to hunt down the props, the scouts are fragile enough as is already but fair enough making it too easy for scouts to run away and as a pyro having to abort a chase because of low health sucks a lot (especially if you then see someone else getting the kill ). Hopefully I can find a nice balance between these two things (mind you that I'm in no way a pro-map maker so don't expect the ultimate map or whatever ) A few 'obvious' noobcorners are always nice so I'll make sure to include some of those. @Ned: 'big metal ramp/towers' I have no idea what you mean by those since I don't play saxton hale so an example would be nice there And dear god no, the machina is not supposed to be playable and I certainly hope the creators of the mod come out with an official fix for it soon, it's pretty much the reason I haven't played anymore these past few days. (also I believe several other newer weapons will be nerfed/removed but don't know the specifics about those) And @Khadgar: yes, cranes, they're in the theme pack so I definitely will include them in the map, I'm actually thinking about allowing them to be able to move in some way, but I'll have to see if I can manage that. In other news, I am still completely unable to write short posts, this is a flaw I've always had so, yeah.. deal with it Still though I can definitely use more tips and opinions from everyone so post people.
