The mealstrom is not from WOW, it is a big part of the story from WOW but it's originally from warcraft III: The frozen throne where it is a key part of the storyline to explain the Naga's.
And if i remember correctly its shown on maps in Warcraft III: Reign of chaos so it predates WOW with at least 5 years.

Yes i know but that map was the pre tbc map because Azuremyst Isle and Eversong woods weren't implemented yet, and Northrend most definately wasn't

 

the picture being from WOW does not make the the mealstrom originate from wow. and he states it does..

 

He didn't say it originates from WoW. He just said that the one in the picture is from WoW
