With the changes to Counter-Strike: Source last June, I had no further reason to keep playing CSS competitively. Having played CSS for 6 years, 4.5 of them being competitive it had become common for me to play with high(er) skilled players. Around the same time as the CSS update, StarCraft 2 went retail. I tried to use SC2 as a replacement for CSS, but micro'ing armies while having good macro to keep an economy going wasn't it for me. The best macro I've dealt with was timing money in CSS. Not to mention my micromanagement skills being on about 20 scales lower than single unit management. As it is now, I have started playing more TF2 lately, because it's fun. However, after having played one 6v6 mix, the competitive me is coming back up. I'm not on a mission to become the best, but I want a game that i can take semi serious to serious again. My question to you, where the fuck do I start? Mixvents? Spam people on steam? Fill in for teams?

Start with mixes and try to learn the casual / finest way to play. Find a team that searches for something like that (scout , soldier , all - rounder) idk. Do with that team some pcw's and start doing some tournements. Practice = the magic word
I'd say, first choose the class you'd like to main. I always advice to start with 1, and when you're familiar with competitive TF2, and you're looking for something fresh, start with a different class. Once you've chosen your class you can mix with the LZ squads. Add the leaders of each squad and ask if you can mix with them, me being one of them I'd already say that I've got no problems in letting you join a few times, however for my team you'd have to stand inline because there are a lot of others who requested the same. Also make an account on ETF2L. Once you've gotten the hang of competitive TF2, you can make a recruitment post, and atleast I will , and I'm sure others with whom you played will do the same, write a little recommendation. With that you should be able to get a team. Especially now Season 9 is starting.
Yeah first thing would be to get good at a class; demo, scout, solly, medic. Watch videos and just play mix'es, I suck and I still have fun.
Alright thanks for the tip about ETF2L Killvion. My main class is unfortunately sniper, while my best other than sniper is soldier. Too bad it's usually the scouts who change to offclass so I won't get to use sniper that often? Also, a question for you: Do specific areas in maps have specific names? In CSS almost every 10 meters of space had it's own name, a lot of maps in tf2 are symmetrical, but does the same rule apply?
Link please. I know most but for maps like Gully and Obscure and for memory/reference it would be handy anyway. And I also open an invite to you Duck to mix with Orange
yeah, there is a positive and a negative point about it. The positive thing, the most maps are mirrored, put a mirror in the middle, and the other side is the same. Negative.. There are more maps then CSS
Thanks, I accept your invitation. yeah I also couldn't find the mapname guide, at least not in the stickies. I didn't search for a very long time though because of dinner. I also hereby accept any and every invitation to a mix whenever I'm online. Due to my suicidal nature in fps that I still have from CSS (which would win the round quite often by catching my opponents offguard, also because at a certain point I was a fragmovie whore.), I'm probably best off as a roaming soldier or a scout. Although I really need to work on my dodging w scout.
Everything you need is in this thread: <a class="postlink" href="http://etf2l.org/forum/league/topic-12510/?recent=274229" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://etf2l.org/forum/league/topic-125 ... ent=274229</a>
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.ubercharged.net/how-to-play-tf2/the-competitive-tf2-guide/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.ubercharged.net/how-to-play- ... tf2-guide/</a> Advice you to start with this guide. Well at least that's the one I started with.
Thanks everyone, most of the guides are 90% basic though, things you'd figure out by playing pub for a few hours too
All right, now that the topic is here... Is it bad being a Huntsman Sniper when playing competitive? I just keep hearing that it's for noobs and that kind of things, and I really like the Huntsman.
yes. Mostly because, except on the close range, it's mostly luck and random spam. People are annoyed to hell by it. Besides that, it's by far not as efficient as the normal sniper rifle, which makes it a stupid weapon to choose. inb4 jer9 comes here and stupidly claims otherwise =D
