Hey guys! Since I was forced to use my old CRT Monitor, my TF2 is doing crazy things. 1. I am forced to use the startup parameter -dxlevel 90. Dont know why, but when I doesnt use it, it only shows the intro videos and then crash. Any solutions? 2. Every time I start the game my resolution is set so 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024, all my grapic is low ( no AA, AF etc.) So TF2 isnt saving anything. Is there a possibility to write a config with all those things? Or does anyone got a solution for my problems? Reinstalling havent work so far. Maybe i try it later again :?
Couldn't it be that your monitor is not recognized properly by your graphics card? Check that out first. Why are you used to use your old CRT monitor anyways? Is your TFT broken? Maybe it isn't and is it your graphics card..... just thinking...
Hi, and yes there is a solution to your problem. Like your DirectX level, your screensize, and even NO videos can be set in the startup options of your game... -novideo for not starting the intro video's -window to start in a window, instead of full screen. For more go to https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... _faqid=584 Hopes this helps you.
Well my TFT was broken so i had to use my CRT. MY graphics card is alright Im going to check this out khad! /edit: Well my monitor is identified as a Plug-and-Play Monitor. I think thats the problem. On my old one (got the same, manufacturer warranty) he was identified correctly :S Im already using -novid and -windowed in my startup options. I thought of writing some other commands in this autoexec.cfg.
autoexec.cfg runs on game startup so any comand you want executed on startup (game OffCourse) goes in there so yes that works. dunno why this monitor is acting weird never seen this problem before
you need the commands in the launch options for you that would be: -full -nojoy -noipx -novid -w 1280 -x 1024 -console -freq 60 -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd windowed mode costs you a lot of your FPS. resource: http://www.dieall.de/da2008/index.php?m ... =59&page=2 you might want to trow away everything in the /cfg/ folder and just use the launch option "-autoconfig" to get a clean config again when you start the game, then close the game and remove that launch option (or it will ignore again previous settings). for optimizing your system, you might wanna look at this: http://www.dieall.de/da2008/index.php?m ... view&id=60
Guys... his screen broke down and now he has to use different settings to startup TF2? Cmon! That sounds really weird to me. That like having a flat tire with your petrol gassed car and to fix it you will have to gas it up with Diesel next time I think its something else, more basic. All worked well, TFT screen broke, replaced it by CRT, TF2 fails Thats the story if I understand it correctly. So.... most logical its something in his graphics/screen settings which doesn't fit right. Plug and Play monitor is a general driver which might work correctly. Check the resolution and refreshrate as well. If you can use 1280x1024 on it so should TF2.
You understand it right TFT Screen broke, replaced by CRT for 1 week, got TFT back Going to try this config thing out, if it works im going to reinstall Steam. But first im doing my homework Thanks for help guys, reporting back soon
The options: -w 1280 -x 1024 -freq 60 Tells TF2 to use that resolution and refresh, whatever the monitor tells to the graphic card and then read out by the videocard driver which tells it to the game is IGNORED. The option: -full Runs the game FULLSCREEN and NOT windowed (windowed has it's own problems) The options: -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd Disables all TF2 settings for your mouse speed etc, and uses the windows GUI settings. The options: -nojoy -noipx -novid -console tells TF2 NOT to load any stuff for any joystick, or IPX network (obsolete). -novid prevents any introduction movie to be run. -console is having console open at startup (I find that handy...). if I remember correctly PNP monitor detection does not deliver resolutions correctly to games always. In your example the old CRT may give PNP but only correctly for 1024x768 for higher or equal to 60hz. 1280x1024 it reports a lower value than 60 (think 57 or 59 or so) which is often NOT suppored. it might report as highest value 59 or so.... TF2 then drops down to a lower resolution which supports the minimum of 60 hz. This is also the actual reason all TFT monitors report 60hz on the DVI cable, regardles of resolution.... cos DVI does not work with a vertical refresh like CRT does, it does not need a "indicator" for the vertical refresh. It just sends "change" data to the screen over the cable... wherever it is changed... This also explains why a TFT with only 2ms responsetime can act that fast... only on DVI connector. 1 second / 60 hz = 0.016666 sec = 16 ms. This ring's any bells anybody? yes... cos via D-Sub connector you get 16 ms... thats why all the old TFT's are 16 ms.
So... this is just a bypass If the base setup would have been right this wouldn't be needed. I always rather solve the issue than going around it Ah well, it works.... thats most important.
base issue is the CRT monitor reporting a too low value for refresh (maybe even interlaced). solve it? I wish you happy soldering that CRT then.... its bout requirements for pnp and a law for the 60 hz also I believe. My 21" CRT i use as 2nd monitor goes for 1280x1024 on 120hz... 1600x1200 for 60hz. but the dotpitch is not small nuff for that last resolution to be sharp.
