Hi. I've been thinking, maybe someone is having hard to control them self when playing games and any kind of school work. I had that problem for a while ago, but can't remember where i got an text from that helped me. I had it on a post it note on my descop for maybe an half year. It helped me to control myself, get better in school, be able to resist game. I thought i would share it with you. Someone is maybe having the problem i used to have, or maybe not. Even if you don't have, it's some good study methods. There are 3 i used. I chosen 1 of them. I won't tell which one, because everyone should pick the one they like.

*Method one, split everything up over the day so you not have to sit 2 hours but 4 times half an hour.

*Method two, only turn the pc on if your done with your schoolwork for today and then game aways to your hearts content.

*Method tree, try to motivice you better grades means better chances in your live nobody will hire you just because your good at tf2.

But in the end its always up to you to control yourself.

Usually the best amout for concentration is 30-50 mins.
Less then that and you might just thinking of going back to your game and not learn effective.
More then 50 mins and you will start to loose on your concentration.
Thats why schools have breakes planned in 10 minutes of relaxing are good for shutting down but to less to learn something properly.

I hope that maybe someone will get use for this info. Thanks for reading. ;)

Method me - fail at school and then lock yourself in a room with a computer and get a job 1,5 years later that you actually like, without the help of any school.

Kind of exaggerated ... not really

Method Morrolan - Don't practice as much as you should during highschool, but still pass it. After that, start secondary education all over again, just take a different path this time.

back when I was in school, I used the lunch breaks on school to first eat, then go separate somewhere silent and make my homework as far as I could, if school hours where over early or had some hours drop out, I finished my homework.

    - I normally made my homework the same day I got it, or otherwise as soon as I had the chance... I never piled it up to the night before I had to turn it in.
    - The night before I turned it in I re-read it, and checked, made maybe 1-2 adjustments as I saw fit, and turned it in as such.
    - Do things before the evening meal.
    - Never do a "cram", doesn't work, the sleep deprivation makes your memory of the subject worse instead of better. Better is to made a excerpt of the important stuff, and if thats still more then a page, make a shorter version of that.
    - do not colormark in your book, it doesn't work, for you still are turning pages, reading whole pages instead of just 1-2 pages of the entire subject of the most important stuff.
    - Ask somebody to ask you questions out of the book, try find exams or w/e and answer those, to find out what you lack, so you can adjust

Group work with other students has been problematic often with ppl doing nothing of their assignment and turning stuff in the last night before and then leaving a shitload of work to be done in the evening before it must be ready, so I came up with this:
    - As soon as you get it, make a appointment for that evening, right away, if they can't or don't want, plan it for next day, or even bolder, if they cant in the evening, you plan it in the afternoon.
    - If they don't show up, after 2-3 days you make note that ppl aren't cooperating in your group to the teacher.
    - Depending on the answer of the teacher, make up for their lack of work, and scratch their names from the homework.
    - Make a schedule, try to have things done/ready at 1/2 the time before your group has to turn it in.
    - make sure you always get copies of what ppl made, and be involved in the finished piece.
    - Object to have to turn it in "the day after a subsequent lesson about it" or w/e stupid the teacher set up that one has to do it in 1 evening.

Saved me a lot of trouble, and if the group failed, I still had time to get the group assignment done with the maximum input, and to do the work. Ppl not doing their part, I fucked back.

As for discipline, do such stuff ALWAYS b4 pleasure. Game time is spending of FREE time, if you have assignments, then its not free time.

    Tips for on the computer:
    - Only have shortcuts / documents of your work stuff on your desktop and their related programs.
    - leave games etc in the start menu
    - use a agenda program to remind you of work to do, let that program autostart and remind you when you start the computer.

    Kitten Method:

Leave your assignment to the last possible moment before it's due in (while still leaving enough time) and blitz it then.

Had an assignment a few weeks ago, wrote 2,500 words on it the day before hand in (about half of the overall assignment, which included a practical implementation) got 79% (70%+ is the best grade I can get).

Had an assignment due in last monday, wrote 3,500 words on the Sunday (the entire thing), not had my mark back yet on that :D

Got the final draft of my dissertation due in on Wednesday, and I'm starting it early (today!)

I find the pressure helps me focus, otherwise I find myself spending the morning on forums and the internet, a nice long lunch break watching a film, maybe half an hours work after that and then back to forums. My record is finishing an 8 hour shift (06:00 - 14:00) getting home, smashing out 4,000 words for the write-up of a website I made, creating and carrying out a test plan/test table on said website, writing a user guide on how to change and update the website and creating some bullshit storyboards/designs for the website I'd already made. Got into bed about 3AM, up for Uni at 8, the hand in was midday - got 69% which was later taken up above 70% when it was second marked by an external moderator :D

Jups, pressure makes you focus more, but it's risky. When starting earlier it helps you to get your assignment perfect. That extra day to correct small mistakes gets you from mediocre to perfect.

Oh and on your job: At first its what you know and later in life it's who you know....(so don't take grades to seriously, teachers have failings to)

I've always preferred doing a lot of stuff, just good enough, instead of one or two things very well. I like to keep busy, but find it difficult to find motivation for something if I don't REALLY have to do it or really like it. And I try to only do things I actually like. This results in me doing a full time study in International Relations in Leiden, while at the same time I also take an internet course from Harvard University in Moral Justice, a course in Social Psychology at the Wesleyan University and I'm enlisted in a course Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism which will start in 3 months.

All this while doing stuff for LZ, teaching kids in high school, organise debating tournaments and play several musical instruments (again I preferred to play 4 different instruments averagely rather than 1 very well).

In high school I always did the least amount I could do while still passing except for those few subjects that actually interested me. There I'd usually do more than I had to.

I always start too late, but finish on time. I like the stress that accompanies this way of getting through education. It gives a feeling that you're always doing as much as you can possible do in the time you have. As long as I'm very busy with stuff I like, I'm happy. That's a reason I love to organise events. You have so much to do and there is always a deadline. The moment I've finished the preparations and I'm finally done, I'm always kinda sad that it's over.

This pretty much.I don't quite remember ever properly studying in the past 11 years I have been attending some form of school.Sure every month or so I sit down fo about an hour and read the stuff aloud but I never thought of that as studying...

Another method I found that works well for me.

    Picking out an empty Notebook

From there on anything that you need to study you write down in there

You have about 5 reads through it per day or more depending on how long it is.It might take some time to get it all on paper, but at least you'll be studying everything at once.

Not that I employ this method very often...

    antou method :

Don't die on trying to know everything by heart, just make sure you understand most of it.
Now I'm enrolled into an Engi school, I don't bother trying to get the best grades. Getting the diploma at the end of the 3 years is the only important thing, and I want to enjoy my life as much as I can while I'm still young/a student.

And +1 to the "I work best under pressure syndrome", except we all know we don't ;) .
