Hey, A most of you have noticed Valve adjusted the way some hats are painted. Like my precious black tosselcap. Which looked so awesome with the blue/red stripes, but now is completely, and fully black. Which is FUGLY. Now there is this guy with a nice idea, who posted that idea on the steam forums here. Basics of the idea are that you can choose yourself what part of the hat you want to paint. Valve is never going to listen to us if we don't scream loud enough. So please all respond in this topic with a positive reply. I made an account on the steamforums specially for this (never felt the urge to say anything on the forums before), my account is "awaits activating" from a site admin, in case you're wondering why I haven't posted anything there myself yet. Also if you don't have tosselcap or a stovepipe or one the other hats they fucked up, this idea is still great, and it will give even more diversity in the hats, to make them even more fun to see.
just before you start shouting that every hat is being flipped, they're overall improved. my brown fancy fedora looks a lot better than first! ^^ they've done a great job on the improved hats. although yeah it's a shame some hats are re-changed again (as your precious tosslecap) another paint item sounds strange though. I found the things he suggests a bit pointless (emblems, emblems, emblems), sure for the stripe it might be cool, but don't see much of a point for other hats. plus it means you lose twice as much metal to get the hat look like you want it.
only wanted my gold kick bucket (gold kabuto) and don't think they changed it that much so i'm glad. and yes the tosslecap or whatever the condom is called was fugly when it came out then the stripes made it look less like a condom and now it changed back? well anywho i'm glad with my "original" "vintage" FIRST random crafted hat xD the bakers boy wich imho is the best scouthat i have all the hats i wanted for my classes (sniper yelow belt isn't that "good" but hey, and i don't have a spy hat -> anymore) so any paint i'll get now will be traded for metal hahaha xD
Painting the hat + details = 2 paintjobs = double costs But he just meant hats in general, where you would want to change both. Normally you wouldn't be able to, but now you can, you HAVE to.
Shame my white painted voodoo Juju still looks like its been left out in the sun a bit, instead of actually looking white.
more paintable options per hat will mean more data to be loaded etc. I rather have them more items to be made paintable.
You said you didn't even use the draw_models, so how the flip do you know which team you are? Oh of course, they have teamcolor based HUDS! D:
Sometimes I get a bug when colors are mixed. The worst example is when, as a Red, you get ubered and become Blu -_- In that case, believe me, it's very confusing...
for hats to be multicolored, they don't need 23 different textures, but 23^N where 23 is the number of different colors, and N the ammount of collors that can independently applied to it. 2 colors make 529 textures instead of 23 3 colors make 12.169 etc. Any idea how much problems that gives on the GCF files with their max size for those files of 4 GB and a max file count? And how cramped the videocard memory will go? And to make all those, that will be very long job, cos there are so many items to do for it. As for coloring weapons, i'd say NOT the team colors, but some other color details. Must not made hard to distinquish some1's team. coloring weaps goes for the same.
