Heh, sooner or later people have to get over it anyway, can't stand all that hypocritical shit on newspaper and TV, so I'm fine with making fun of it. ;)

yes and no. In a way I do find it funny and I think we should be able to laugh about it.

However, almost 3000 people died that die. And I can't help but thinking about the 3000 families that lost a mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister etc. That really makes me quiet. Those people weren't at war, they weren't fighting, they weren't responsible. Most of them at least. Of course, I know that "innocent" civilians die every day. There is war, hunger etc etc. But this stays special. Probably because the people that died that day could have been anyone of us, or anyone one of our family members. Ordinary people going to work like they always do. Not having a clue that they'd never go home.

Obviously it was a tragedy, but if you look at how many people die daily in a car accident it just seems stupid to think that much about 9/11. None of the people who die in a car accident knew that they're gonna die when they left home, same as the people who died at 9/11.
I think the reason that 9/11 is so special is that it showed the americans that these "bad guys" their government was fighting are not somewhere at the other end of the world, but that they are right next to them.

Or just watch at how many innocent people die in Afghanistan vs the WTC towers....but it stays a tragedy. It just strikes me odd when something gets to much attention. It needs to be placed in perspective (not in 1 point of view). Humor is for me the best way to deal with something.
To understand why just watch "Charlie Wilsons war"

Oh I'm irritated to death that you actually have to search for a tv broadcaster that isn't showing something about 9/11 and I very much dislike the fact that it's always the American vision, but still. I dunno. Feels different.

You guys seem to forget this is one of the most changing events that shaped the world of today.

I too think it's quite retarded to have a world wide memorial. I also think the dutch "Dodenherdenking" on the 4th of may is stupid or any national memorial. If something this big has happened it's not needed to have a special day for it, it's always in the back of your mind. And everyone remembers where they where at the moment it happened anyway.

In the end it doesn't really matter whose fault it was, unless you're looking for revenge.

    Somewhat related: <a class="postlink" href="http://i.imgur.com/0ATim.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://i.imgur.com/0ATim.png</a>
I can't guarantee for the numbers to be correct, but all in all they seem to fit in from what I remember about history.

The three lowest counts are some of the most remembered tragedies in our societies... Now I found an example to express why I hate the USA cultural leadership :D .

It's funny, that's the only thread I remember off the top of my head where we all agree, like one big, happy family.

@Rex: I take it that this is because a) most people never heard of it and b) it's hard to get numbers for them. Tbh I had to search for "hindu genocide" first, for I did not know about it so far.
