Well, most of you (atleast the dutchies) will remember the horrible accident from Queensday 2009. Where a man decided to crash his car in to a crowd of people. This year, with extreme security levels, Queensday went great. But today (may the 4th) is our National war casualty memorial day. And at 8 o' clock the entire nation is in silence for 2 minutes (that's the idea). Every year there is a big ceremony at the national war monument in our capital. The royal family, veterans and other people put flowers at the monument. it draws thousands of people each year. This year a nut decided to scream extremely loud and long during the 2 minutes of silence. Everybody could still remember the horror from 2009 so out of a scaring reaction more people started screaming, this caused a chain reaction which lead to a massive run of people. There were lots of fences between the crowd and the royal family but as everybody started running those fences fell on the ground with quiet a bang, a lot of people thought that this was the sound of gunfire, this caused complete chaos. The royal family was rushed away. "Luckily'' everyone already was on sharp and withing minutes the situation was under control. The ceremony continued only 10 minutes later. But lots of people were wounded because there were run over by the crowd. You can imagine that there were a lot of old people there, and there were quiet a lot of people with broken bones/limbs. Video's: streetlevel view view from above (I can't embed those things, if tc knows how, feel free)
Ooo I remeber seeing something on the news about a car driving into loads of people, never realised it was queensday.. But what a dick, why didnt someone shut him up, maybe by flooring him
The thing that caused people to run away was probably something else though. 2 Men were arrested, the first being the guy screaming (turns out he's got issues, and has been arrested for different things loads of times), the other guy has already been released, but he was carrying a suitcase, which fell to the ground when the man startled him by screaming. Resulted in people thinking there was a bomb in the suitcase or something
Thats screwed up, Im suprised no one shut him the hell up though.... in a bad way Didnt realise it was in the netherlands last year though, just watched some youtube videos and it was brutal
crowds are one single unit... just watch the battle of agincourt there is even a special study on the behavior of crowds. in my opinion people have gone a bit weak and run away like a hord of sheep way to fast. i am very sure that i wouldnt have run over everybody in panic
indeed i did a lot of study's on that... i'm in the sales bussiness of newspaper abbonements.. i develop pitches for that.. so i make the pilot pitch projects... so on the street when i try selling something when they have 3 different choices.. the will always take the one where i tell them.. The most people chose this one because.................... people are just a big hord of sheeps... also easy to lead them to the place you wan't them to....
I fucking raged when I saw it on TV. At first I thought it was one of those idiots that takes pleasure into disturbing this even. Like you have people that ride scooters, blow horns etc. But when I saw the crowd move, I thought "Not again..." Shit's always the same way. And yes people, behave like sheep. With a little knowledge on how to persuade people or to "read" their behavoir you can go a long way. Trust me, I've tried both
yes, if you want to have fun, just go with a group of friends (5 will already do) to a very crowded place. then look up and start pointing and whispering. you will notice that in no time everyone looks up. and this really really works. but Pim, I had exactly the same reaction. oh and bart. Our hero... I you were in that crowd you would have had no choice. the people who stood still almost all got run over. so it's either running or getting hurt.
or you just ''gooi de beuk dr in '' no im sorry but i dont think people will run me over that fast... and killvion are you saying you would run away in panic and run other people over like some l4d style zombie horde?
Size does matter vs a small number of ppl, but in a closely packed crowd, anybody will go down, no matter how big they are.
1 guy started screaming, alright but then loads more started. And when loads of people are screaming and you hear a big bang and some more bangs (the iron stuff being pushed over, hard to hear on camera). You definitly are going to run like everybody else. Because if they are running they must have a reason. People realised that there wasn't anything wrong fairly soon, they stopped after about 5 meters but the harm was already done. Loads of people have died in the past, suffocated by only the pressure of a crowd pushing.
Real footage from 10m distance: At around 1:27 you can clearly hear the scream.. after that you hear a soft noice, that's the fence falling over, and that caused the people to go wild.. I don't think that this is someone fainting and falling against a fence.. It's just a bunch of fuckers who want to get their prank on live television, by recreating that drama from queensday if you ask me.. The scream, the fences falling over.. On queensday there also were screams, and the car drove through a fence before hitting the people and crashing into the monument.. The media keeps saying that someone fainted, fell against a fence which caused the fence to fall over, and someone screamed because of that. But first of all, the scream is BEFORE the falling of the fence, and second of all, who the hell starts screaming like fucking tarzan when someone faints.. Media, a great invention, but don't you ever start to believe it. Anyway ^^.. other footage, that I liked more ^^..
I've heard on tv, that it was because someone got ill and the fences fell, people ran away. People are way to fed up with the whole terrorism thing. Starting to see terrorism everywhere, people need to think a little more instead of screaming and running away btw it's quite not quiet.
