Heya there guys, If you are coming into here with the intent to compare it to TF2...just leave...I'm not comparing anything. How many of you have played or are playing the beta? (lasting until the 10th now) What do you guys think of it? What class(es) do you prefer to play and why? I just started playing the beta today and I have to say it's been a fresh experience. The character I've taken to is McCree although I have given Roadhog a go as well. I played the tutorial for a bit then hopped into a game against the AI. The reason for this is so I can get a feel for the game rather than just hopping into a PvP game and letting my team down. It will be a while until I feel confident enough with multiple classes to join a PvP game. Anyway here is a video of my game against some AI...
I'm still thinking about getting it or not. I don't have a Battlenet account, so I would need to create that too. Not that that would be so much effort, I'm just not sure if I wanna create the account just for playing Overwatch. Main reason for that is, I made a Origin account some time back to play Battlefield (3, I think it was) with a few friends, that lasted for maybe a few weeks, then I abandoned it. I don't want the same happening to another account... From what I've seen so far in videos, it really seems fun to play (as long as there's no class stacking and your team fairly knows what to do) and considering it's not even completely out yet, updates are sure to come (at least more often than with another well-known class-based FPS, heh). So yeah, might give it a shot while it's still in the beta, since getting it for free and not liking it is better than paying the full price and then letting it rot in a corner... EDIT: Downloaded it and played a bit... Roadhog seems to be a pack of fun, probably will play him more
Initially there was in my opinion way too much hyping up about this game, from just about everyone I talked to. I was initially hoping it would be f2p because Blizzard didn't decide at the time. Since it was announced to be p2p and the price tag was quite high for my 'trying' experience... I was really hoping for something like an open beta to at least try it out and see if I like it or not... even though people've said that most likely it won't happen because of the closed beta I am happy it did. Decided to try it out, had a ton of fun, solo and with friends. Now I got 3 legendary skins (will be wiped I know but proud non-the-less) and still kicking it hard. As for the characters, in large majority I like the design of every single one due to each single one giving a unique view/experience of the game. I cannot single out one that I like, but I also cannot single out ones that I dislike, because I still use all of them based on situations. I may dislike the look of some (junk rat, warhog...) but their kit is still very much usable. As for what the game has logged I have the most success on Widowmaker so far and some of my friends have noticed the helpful nature of having one in the back lines. As for the actual opinion of the game, this is a very well polished beta, done by Blizzard. Company that has a large success all in all more in the past but still one of the well know companies to date for their way of handling their product. The game mechanics are not supposed to be 'balanced' as it's designed around imbalance and heroes countering one another, or compensating for each other's weaknesses. There's very little gamemodes so far, attack/defend, highlander (capture'n'hold), payload, capture->escort(payload)/defend. Very few with a few variations. Very few maps aswell. Blizzard did announce they will continue to keep adding more heroes, maps, modes as time goes and they'll add it for free for those that have gotten the game (so no dlc it'll just be added). Which is very good. As for the good sides of the game in my opinion, fresh (as stated above) feeling of something new, it's rather unique and it's very diverse, allows for many interesting moments in a game, much satisfaction in different moments of your personal, or your team success. All the heroes feel unique and feel like they have a place. The game actually has amazing clips to watch online (non-gameplay) and even more gameplay ones (especially after this open beta), should check it out if you're considering anything. And now bad sides.. UI and all is great.. it's all nice and well.. matchmaking... it's atm at least rather unstable, where it tends to have great matches often where win/lose it was a great and balanced game.. but often it can have games where it's imbalanced and adds up people together and it's a steamroll.. I am hopeful this will get resolved after a wipe and people start playing for a bit, people should fall into place. There's another issue with people that're trolls.. ignorant bastards and generally afk or do nothing helpful for the entire game, it happens still.. blaming it on others is not helping either.. Again hoping this will get resolved in due time, it's Blizzard, yet to let me down horribly... (not saying I like all of their decisions.. I question many.. but this is so far something they're handling in all of their games properly, given enough time..) TL.DR: Very fun game, needs a bit more polish but Blizzard will surely get to it in time. Worth checking it out. Personally suggest getting it through one of the other sites like G2A due to the fact you get origins for less money than what blizzard asks for a regular copy. But that's at the time of posting this, dunno how long it will last. Give it a whirl while it's on open beta, worth a try if you catch it before expiring.
As a preorderer I can say that I really really enjoy this game as a casual experience. Blizz have done so many things right, including the removal of scoreboards and an kind of K/D bullshit. The commendation screen after each game is amazing and the chat fuction doesnt really allow for much flaming. With that, the game just remains as a really enjoyable experience, especially with friends (who mostly suck xD). For me it's never gonna be a competitive title, but it doesn't have to be. In contrary to Battleborn (which is by the way an amazing game too) it doesnt make me rage at all really. Pretty much a 9/10.
The other thing I like about Overwatch is the fact that when you screw up...you can watch the replay and then be like "yep...that's what I did wrong" to then further improve as that particular class. Such as Mei is good for most 1vs1 situations but not against 2 or more people. I am going to pre-order in a minute.
Played some more and can only agree with Shadow in the matchmaking point... it really is no fun to play against a team of guys with levels from 40-60 when most of your team is in the 10-20 levels. As for the characters... Call me a Heavy main (which I'm not), but Roadhog is definitely my favorite. Soldier 76 is awesome to play too, but lacks a bit of damage against tanks, but eh, not his job in the team I guess. Lucio is such a nice support character, by far my favorite, as long as your team is decent. Gonna pre-order as well, the matches that were a lot of fun outweighed the unbalanced roll games by far. It convinced me
After having seen a lots of gameplay, I've preordered it and from all the games I did since the open beta, it was not a mistake. It's been a long time since I had this much fun in a multiplayer game. I try to play as many different characters as possible but if I have to pick one, it's definitely going to be Junkrat, I always tend to do stupid stuff that end up working just fine. Got a lot of fun too with Genji (Still haven't found a good way to use his ult), Reinhardt and D.va. Don't ask me to play Tracer or Winston, I can't do shit with them.
