Hello all, Yesterday I was at the Dutch Schools Debating Championships, this was a very intense and long day of debating. My team existed out 2 girls from my school and me. Unfortunately we did not manage to get into the finals at the end of that day, but that didn't really bother us that much. The real reason I went there, is because this was a tournament that is organised by the National Debating team (the very very best speakers here in Holland, but also current World Champions for English as a 2nd language) and this the the place where you could place yourself for that team. To be discovered and then re-present The Netherlands on the World Championships. At the end of the day they had a list with 10 names of people they wanted to train with, try out and who had a chance to be in the actual team of 5. My name was on that list! As you can imagine I was extremely happy and amazed that the best speakers in the world thought I could be their follow up. They will give a few intensive training and selection days, in which I will have to prove myself and show them I'm with the best 5 of the group. IF I manage to do this, then this could effect my ability to be here around LZ, because I'll be gone for weeks to go to tournaments in f.e. Scotland but also South-Africa. However I do not want to get to comfortable with that idea, I first need to get further through the selections. I'll keep you guys in the loop, and hopefully I'll have good news in about a month.
Well done ! That explains why I feel like I'm not able to speak properly on mumble when you're around, even if you're younger than me... ^^
Pretty much all i can about this consists in exactly four words and a smile : "Good luck, have fun" PS. It would be really awesome to say that i know one of the world debat champions, so dont let me down please
As there are some errors, and I'm assuming you need to know English extensively, I'll correct them for you I know you like to be corrected so you can learn better. To explain the e.g or i.e. i.e. means "that is". It comes from the latin "id est" e.g. means "for example". It comes from the latin "exempli gratia" Anyway, good luck with your debating and congratulations on being shortlisted for the team
I very much doubt Killvion is going to say things like "the the place" out loud, during one of such debates Anyways, congratulations. Don't forget to mention Lethal-Zone whenever you can
Hope you make it, and go explore the world.... And post us some of you YouTube movies of the debates..
Killv, this is awesome news Good luck at those tryouts, but don't forget that even if you don't get through, the point you're at on this moment is further than most people ever will get ^^ So I can congratulate you on that already
Oh Killvion, that's great news! One of those moments which form your future life. Hope you will show them who is the BAWSS
Nice one sir! I too could be getting some good news soon aswell but thats for another time And as for the e.g, if you were speaking out loud you usually would say something like: An example of this is For example No one really says e.g when speaking, more when written down, ive said it a few times to my mates but thats just because they're my mates haha
Didn't feel like creating a whole new topic bout this. I have a debating tournament where I'm going to in about 30 minutes, and will take all the way to Monday night. So see you guys on Tuesday again
