We did some highlander practice last night and i was getting very strange connection issues. At first i connected to the server fine, was on there for about 30 minutes and then suddenly my game sort of froze, i couldn't move or use any voice commands, and people on my screen were not moving either, i could look around though. I also did not get the red text in the top right corner warning of a connection problem. So i disconnected and tried reconnecting, it showed up in the server browser fine, but when i tired to connect i got the "Connection failed after 4 attempts" message. I tried another 10 times but got this message every time. After restarting steam i was able to connect fine, but again i got the strange freeze after 30 minutes, this time i connected again first time, but again it froze after about 10 seconds. No other servers have given me this problem, no one else on the server (including people from the UK) had issues, and like i say it shows up fine in the server browser, but seems to refuse to let me connect, and if i can manage to connect i get weird freezes. Does anyone have any possible solutions/explanations?
its either a isp issue or a valve fuckup with those stupid updates.. like i said with AM2 and AM1 that there are lag spikes.. which i cannot pinpoint. it sucks balls, but at the moment i cant do much.. only wait and hope that it gets fixed. Since both machines have the issue (and AM1 and AM2 are on different datacenters and different ip's and different servers) its likely a isp global issue. p.s. on issue to resolve and have the best ping times ever is have the community donate about 300 euro's each month.. but thats the same chance of bumping into jennifer lopez saying she wants you..
Also, want to add, that I have had strange lags on blue war server yesterday till Pablo restart the server. I'm sure its not ISP or routing related problems.
getting weirder by the minute, in my house if something works it works.. in "valve" world it works untill it breaks out of the blue.. but hey i can imagine that the war server needs a restart after some time. If we dont restart the 2fort server each day it will begin to "stutter" too, so that might be "uptime" related. Usually can be fixe by a map change though..
I restart the blue server before every match I play on it. Pcw or official and still I hear complaints about lag, that happen with perfectly fine pings. Wish I could be of any help.
Also, the baseball server was lagging as hell, but I think that was because it hasn't been restarted in a while. You know, those weird minilags that occur all the time.
yeah thats still a ongoing issue all the time.. we can auto reboot all servers each week or so, just to be sure..
why not use the plugin i suggested a while back? it restarts every night when the server is empty also have you treid disabeling the top 10 plugin like (who was it) suggested?
Not too many plugins and crap on the warservers please. A map restart does the job. We do that with the green server every day before we start playing. And if it restarts for example every night, there's no use of the plugin because we only play evenings, so by that time there's already quite some hours passed, so it will be a bit laggy anyway. Just restart the map and everything's fine. No big deal, most people have rights on the warservers.
After the server was restarted i still had this problem, it fixed lag for other people but my strange problem still occurred.
well the war servers are as vanilla as can be.. only sourcebans is installed on it (for the admins) so after a reboot it should normally just be fine.. otherwise its a valve issue. since sourcebans has been running fine for years.. a lag spike now and then can always happen regardless of the host. If it happens say once a week that you have a bit higher ping times, i can live with that.. but ofcourse since there are more lage issues on the other servers then everybody complains more about the lag (which is normal) it was ok after a hickup tonight i heard, then it was fine. had some other people also screaming lag on AM2, while i was in there just fine, told the guy that its fine, another person also reported no issues, so it was him alone.. not saying that there aint a issue.. btw if server are restarted daily, there is no need to restart it again later that day. it should be good for that day.. it only becomes bad if the map stay on 24/7 for days in a row. So a mapchange should already be sufficient.
