Well the thing is, we have some ads running and some other things that announce and god knows what. Since we changed our motd to something other then our server list there is no real easy way to show our servers. We want to reintroduce the !servers list for instance which also puts in the chat "also availible blabla server" but then it might be a bit much in the chat considering you always see the medic calls, the joins and disconnects, and all the other spam.

We can remove this, like we have on the trade servers and saxton servers. I want to do this on all servers to reduce the "clutter" and give more room for normal chat so that somebody can actually read it instead of being scrolled of the screen by a person screaming medic 24/7.

But since at that same time Hamz had a word with me and didn't want to see this removed i told him i wold make a poll for it. So here we go :)

Can i install the plugin to cleanup the chat clutter or do you want to keep it?

Would it be possible to let some thing still pass or is it a real all or nothing thing? For instance the "Thanks" and perhaps also "Spy" commands can be nice or useful to also see.

Imo, "Spy" and "Medic" are the only two useful ones. Its pretty vital when someone spams "spy", because you know not to stand still and start spy checking.

All the others are fine to go imo.

The only one useful one is the "Spy!" one, the "Medic!" call is not very useful imo, for a medic sees the medic icon over a player anyways, and for directional info he must rely anyways on audio and visuals.

Having in chat the "Spy!" messages does have its merrits imo. Its a warning one is about and to look out for one.

I'm against any chat-spam anyways, so any clean-up is fine by me. But to replace it by something else.... :(

The only thing I want to see there is the actual chat tbh.

    9 votes, 6 replys..

if you say no, say why.. and what is the limit.

Like others said too.. a medic sees the icon already, a good medic does not rely on the chat text. Same goes for spy.. i "hear" the people say spy, so why do people still need it i ask?

@kick: thats the one i mean, but i want it so it works with ssms ;P

1 important aspect of voice chat is a cloaked spy who uses it, if you pay attention you can identify them pretty easily with it. That alone would be enough reason to keep it imo.

Well, it's kinda tricky to vote yes or no.

I can understand both positions equally well, so I wont vote on this matter.

you see an icon, i also HEAR if somebody is below 60%... but then i still have no way in hell i know who is calling me...
the spy one i never even pay attention to
i say leave it as it is don't remove ANYTHING... and tell people how to shut down the HLX spam (problem solved)
disabeled HLX spam and my chat hardly moves at ALL

sorry but i think we should leave those commands allone it is part of the game to begin with

you can filter them out with a console command client side, did so in the past... and yes, I mean the "Spy!" and "Medic!" and other stuff in chat.

We need to divide this by servers... on VSH servers these need to be removed completely cause people will spam them when Hale is not around and you barely get the "Incoming!" command used properly. And I think other mod servers such as dodgeball, prophunt and no clue what else is there as mods should also have these removed cause there's no real use for them.

Now normal TF2 servers are a different story. As mentioned, enemy spies can often be identified from the chat displaying their team color when sending out a voice command, not sure if this is intentional from Valve's side, but definately affects gameplay. You also definately need "Spy!" cause that alerts many team members in the area.
"Incoming!" voice command may also prove vital as the "Spy!" warning.
As for the medic calls, well as a medic if you see the alert icons on the screen then you most likely also hear the source of the call already, assuming the game wont display medic call icons coming from the other side of the map (which it doesnt). And I might include some medic players have the auto call out setting in the advanced options so they might already get more than enough calls.
When you thank somebody via voice command I assume the person is nearby and pretty much knows and hears the "Thanks" command without the need to read it too.
Go left, go right, move up, go go go, sentry ahead and so on apply the same way as "Thanks", nearby people will assume it's aimed toward them as a warning.

TL;DR: No voice commands in chat on mod servers. Normal TF2 servers should only have "Spy!" and "Incoming!" voice commands in chat.

Voted no, for the same reasons as others.

I actually rely a lot on text commands... if I hear a demoman screaming "Incoming !" really close to me and I don't see anything in my team chat, I know the way isn't safe. Same for "Spy" : if it's an opponent shouting this and I'm playing Spy, I should probably hide or retreat...
I learnt to play with these text messages and I don't think I would like to see them go :S I think they're already off on the trade servers, and it confuses me a lot everytime I go play some DM there :p .

I voted No. I never use a mic while playing, and these voice commands are the only way I have of informing/being informed by my team of sudden happenings. While there are people who spam them needlessly, I try to only use them when actually appropriate, in which cases I'd feel it's important for my team to be able to see them.
Medic and Thanks aren't really needed, with one having the icon for actual Medics and the other not serving any purpose to inform anyone.
Spy is obviously important, as is being able to see the wrong-coloured voice commands of an enemy spy.
The rest I'd also say are important for the reason stated above; they're the only way people without a mic can reliably know what you're encountering/suggesting and I'm sure teamwork coordination would go down an amount if people couldn;t see them any more.
There's also the fact that not everybody will be able to hear the audio; if they have the radio on for example, so they again rely on seeing the commands in the chat.

    voted no, but:

From a medic point of view, i dont care and dont need the "medic!" in chat, due to auto-call icons, thus i dont really mind, if you block "medic!" in chat.
All the other messages however should stay in chat, imo, cause as howabe said, they're pretty handy for communication.

And as previously mentioned the biggest chat-spammer is the HLX-stats stuff; turned them off and chat stays clear.
