Well, I just started playing TF2 and I really like it, but I really want to master the Sniper (Sniper rifle, not Huntsman). I'm a complete noob, I get a headshot every 5-10 deaths (T.T)... So, any tips for a noob, if you please?
Hmm, its just practice I think. Use Sniper, SMG and one of the knife things. I ususally find that if you keep it zoomed in for ages then you tend to miss shots, rather than see someone, aim and fire, results in a hit.
I'm definitely not the best sniper here but I can give you a few tips and train you ingame if you want. Charging your shot is, for me, kinda useless (maybe except a few % for the heavy) because i think you are quicker when you straff then aim and fire than standing still (wanker) zooming and aiming when you see someone. And most of the time, as Alias said, you get a beautiful bodyshot. So the advice is, keep you crosshair on the head line (I know it s not the easiest thing at the begining) straff and when you see someone just try to get your crosshair as close as possible of the enemy's head, aim and fire. Can add me on steam if you want cause I know the things i told are a bit messy x)
Hm maybe, in fact I just wrote down the ideas how they come. It's not the kind of thing I think about when sniping ;D
yeah, almost never stand still, you'll be an easy target then, stay unzoomed untill you see a enemy and quickly point, zoom shoot. - what you basically do is scout, target and kill your victim. Stay unzoomed to see if there are any good targets and then zoom in and kill! - learn to keep your aim at head height, it helps to get headshots. - If a enemy is going from left to right side, keep your aim at a certain spot where he's going to be soon. When he meets your dot, shoot (note: don't do it too early or they'll try to avoid your dot.) - when you've been spotted or when you're sniperbattling, keep moving on your location, strafe, crouch or jump. It keeps you from getting killed. - whenever you've been spotted/killed on your location, they'll probably know you're going back there. therefore you should always keep switching between certain spots to make sure you're not going to be expected. but yeah, mostly try practicing it alot. The sniper is quite an universal class, since almost every game has it. therefore it's quite a nice class you can learn in almost every game.
Practice Turn off mouse acceleration both in TF2 and in windows, also turn off mouse filter, make sure you check raw input in the TF2 mouse options. Practice Use a mouse sensitivity of about 2-3 (depending on what DPI yu have your mouse set to) in TF2, you want to have to move your mouse around 10 inches to do a full 360 (you will need a large mousemat), don't go straight from what you are using now to a low sensitivity, lower it 0.5 each day until you get there; but 10 inches is what your aiming for. Practice Name your sniper rifle, preferably something original and witty (NOT BOOM Headshot, or anything else thats lame); this way you will take pride in your work. Practice (see a recurring theme here?) Dont be embarrassed to go for bodyshots; and work your way up to doing more headshots, but even when you get better at headshots dont waste your time trying to headshot a twitchy scout or a medic that moves around a lot. The most important part is to kill your victim, also dont waste your time going for another headshot when you need to finish off something like a pyro, a quick bodyshot or no scope shot will do around 45-50 damage depending on dropoff. I'm not going to say it again, but im sure you guessed it. Play other classes, playing sniper for 50 hours straight of TF2 only makes you frustrated (been there), take a break and play other classes, i guarantee when you go back to sniper you will do better. You also need to be be able to understand how other classes react to a sniper, so play them yourself. Then next time your playing sniper think what would i do if i was him, this will help you predict their reactions and movement patterns. ^_^ Go with jarate/bushwacka combination; i suppose this is personal preference but those are mine. Get yourself a Ritzy Ricks if your serious about sniping, or there are other good snipers on the enemy team, every little helps. Pop up in unexpected places; don't go to the typical sniper balcony and camp there, get up close and personal with your jarate/bushwacka, and when you get better at headshots there's nothing more satisfying than being up close and personal when you headshot them. It also helps to learn what damage your sniper rifle does at different charge levels, then you can work out how long you need to charge it to kill each class. Practice What everyone else said is good also, i wont repeat it. Feel free to add me and play a few games with me, i'm not exactly a pro sniper but i would consider myself above average. 8)
Great course about sniping Kittens but the point I'm quoting really depends on the sniper (I think I wont teach you something x) ). I really love my 0.8 sensi in TF2 with 600 dpi but I'd say that it's really messy when somebody pop's up behind you and when you have to take machete or smg x). I think he has to find the good sensi/dpi combination for him. Btw I love the "how to be/look like a sniper roxxor" part ^^
Just aim for the head and pull the trigger. Hard scoping (ie staying scoped long) is perfectly acceptable if you are defending a chokepoint. If you have a sniper battle, never be the first to fire unless you are 110% sure you will make the headshot. Since firing leaves you standing in place for 1-2 seconds. Fake scope etc etc. Don't think about it to much, I play better whenever I don't stress about making this shot, needing this headshot etc.
Well that's what i use to get 10 inches of movement for a full 360; any more than that and like you say your practically a sitting duck from behind because you cant turn around too quick. Thanks ^_^ Something else that i left out was use a decent headset - that way you can hear spies uncloak behind you...
tbh, low sens isn't everybody's game. everybody plays differently, one plays high sens, other low sens, dont tell ppl that they should go low sense or high sense cos you are such a player using low/high sense. Its the dumbest thing.
Another thing... Some people have been raging at me for having 100 ping and being a Sniper. Is 100 ping that bad? I don't think so...
depends on how far you live from the server if you live a bit far away, yeh its not bad. if you live close and have a 100 ping, then its bad But anyway, i think they're raging out the fact that you might be warping. which can be pretty annoying for enemies to actually KILL you. but you shouldn't care about them
