Hello, I've been searching for a way to help filling the servers with only joining via text-mode (for when I need to work for example), but I didn't succeed. I tried connecting with this kind of link : steam: "-applaunch 440 "-textmode" "-novid" "-console" "+connect iport" "+jointeam 2"" (doesn't work on the forum, but that's not the problem) but it only started Steam, not TF2. Does anyone knows how to do it ? Thanks !
Why don't you just launch tf2 in textmode and then use steam serverbrowser to join the server? (right click on the steam icon -> servers)
I'm using a laptop so I makes it heat up, and make more noise. That's why I'd like to try with text-only . That's a good idea. But I don't want to have to change the launch options everytime, look for ip, etc.
You don't have to change the launch options. Just make another shortcut (on the desktop/startmenu, where you wish) to hl2 with textmode launch options as parameters. With the ip thingie.. If you've got the servers in the favourites, that's not a problem. If you double click on the server in that serverbrowser tf2 will connect to it (server, not the browser ofc).
As a "target" (or whatever it's called on your system) for the shortcut use Code: "PATH\Steam\steamapps\nick\team fortress 2\hl2.exe" -game tf and the textmode parameters with nosound etc. Just remember to include "-game tf" and the launch options for text mode as entered in game properties (can't think of them now ^^)
no, DF's tool worked differently. DF Called upon some Game DLL's, fooling them to believe the game was running and connected to a server that he set up. Text mode is just a game mode in which it can run.
Thanks again . Unfortunately I get this error : I think that's because of PREC : If anyone is interested, I use this to connect to the BBall server for example : Code: "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\antou2\team fortress 2\hl2.exe" -game tf -textmode -novid -console +connect 78.46.73.57:27025
I get that error sometimes, even if I launch tf2 "the normal way" (which is.. not so different to be honest). It often happens to me when I've got a pending steam update. Are you sure both the steam client and tf2 are up to date? And that gives you the error, right? I honestly don't think that the inecure mode error and the textmode launch option are connected.
It appears only in textmode or does it also appear when you launch tf2 with usual launch options? If the latter - try restarting steam, even couple of times. Dunno why but sometimes it helps.
Never got any problem while launching tf2 by normal way. It must be the first time it happens to me, so I think it comes from the text mode or something ^^''
Haha now I hear the "clap clap clap clap" sounds in text-mode I tried restarting Steam and it didn't change. I can connect using the normal mode, maybe Valve changed something to prevent players to idle that way... is it working for you ? I also tried the first thing you suggested (using the server browser) but it launched a new TF2 window with graphics, which crashed.
I can only connect in textmode if I change the launch options, which is weird. I swear I could connect using the shortcut earlier. (and yeah, when I enter the game in textmode and select server from the steam server browser it connects properly) I'm out of ideas for that moment, maybe try on SPUF? (they are always useful.. [/irony])
Don't worry it's not that important ^^ . Thanks for your help so far ! I'll come back here if I get it working hehe.
