Team Fortress 2 - Class Guide and Tutorials

Hey there, this topic is for all new to tf2 (f2p players) and for those who want to know more about specific classes.
This is supposed to be kind of a collage of yt videos and some web pages, so you don't have to look up everything seperately.
And the videos are based on the standard items and strategy, to find advanced guides/tutorials check
    http://www.youtube.com
    http://www.google.de :D
The sources are listed next to the video/text.

Click on the spoilers to see more of specific classes.

    The Heavy

The Heavy is a slow-moving and sturdy class wielding heavy weaponry that is mainly employed for defensive purposes. As in Team Fortress Classic, the Heavy (also called “Fatty”) kills his opponents with the continuously firing Minigun.

A new addition to the Minigun in TF2 is that using the secondary attack the Heavy can pre-spin the barrel to be able to shoot immediately using the primary fire button when the need arises. The downside of this addition is that it slows down the Heavy’s movement speed even more when activated. The Heavy has a close relationship with his primary weapon which he affectionately calls “Sasha”. The high damage impact makes the Heavy a tremendous havoc wreaker.

Due to his high amount of health points the Heavy only needs to be cautious of backstabbing Spies and Snipers when crossing open spaces. The Heavy is the ideal partner for the Medic and vice versa. With a Medic behind his back the Heavy is a considerable threat even to larger enemy groups. (tf2portal.de)

    The Pyro
Burn Baby Burn! In Team Fortress Classic the Pyro was a class that was almost exclusively played by pyromaniac fans. Totally disregarded in clan gaming he has experienced a true renaissance and great appreciation in Team Fortress 2. Thanks to increased primary weapon damage the Pyro has become the number one short range player class in the TF2 clan lineup and an expert in high-impact ambush.

The Pyro wears a fire-retardant suit and a gas mask that muffles his voice. Endowed with a high movement speed he is able to quickly advance to the enemy. Due to the fact that his primary weapon is effective at short range only, he should concentrate on confined spaces such as narrow winding corridors and hide behind objects when out in the open. With an update the flamethrower got an new ability.

The pyro is able to produce a blast of compressed air that knocks enemies away, and redirects enemy projectiles like rockets, grenades, arrows, flar-gun shoots and jarate. With another update he got the capability to extinct burning team members. (tf2portal.de)

    The Demoman
The Demoman is the damage dealer in Team Fortress 2. Just like in Team Fortress Classic, the Demoman works with a grenade launcher. The launcher fires the classic grenades which explodes when collide with an enemy player or an enemy building, but they explode automatically 3 to 4 seconds after they hit a ceiling, a wall or the ground. The new Sticky bombs remember on the second grenade type of the Demoman from Team Fortress Classic. As the name suggests these bombs sticks on ceilings, walls and the ground and explode on the player’s command. By pressing the fire button longer, the sticky bombs fly even further.

A Demoman is useful in both offensive and defensive gameplay. Sticky bombs help to defend a Control Point or other key positions. When attacking, his grenades can wipe out enemy players in no time when hit. (tf2portal.de)

    The Soldier
The Soldier is the all-rounder class of Team Fortress 2. Although he is rather slow in movement the Soldier has the second highest number of health points and can be effectively used in both offensive and defensive positions. As in Team Fortress Classic he battles opponents using his Rocket Launcher. By executing rocket jumps he can get to positions that are out of reach for other classes and is able to quickly return to the front. (tf2portal.de)

    The Scout
The Scout is the fastest player class. In order to be agile and flexible he additionally has the ability to double jump which is a feature that is well-known from Unreal Tournament. The double jump not only allows the Scout to jump farther than normal but it also gives him the option to change his jump direction in mid-air.

The high movement speed and the double jump ability make the Scout an enormously fast and nimble class, providing him with a key advantage. With his primary weapon, the Scattergun, the Scout can deal considerable damage, especially to low-range targets. If the going gets tough in a head-to-head brawl the Scout can switch to his Baseball Bat and dole out melee hits in quick succession. The main weakness of the Scout is his low number of health points which make it imperative for this class to constantly stay moving and quickly dodge enemy attacks. (tf2portal.de)

    The Engineer

The Builder from Team Fortress Classic must be included in the new Line-up. Who don't like to build with lego bricks or create an own sandcastle? In Team Fortress 2, you can build whatever you want as well. No matter if it's a Sentry Gen, a Dispenser or a Teleporter, you can build them all. By using a PDA-like device, the Engineer can choose between four buildings. After a building has been constucted, it's status will be displayed at the top-right corner of the player's GUI. The Engineer is a defensive class, which means he can't attack the enemy team as he pleased. Instead, he can build a Sentry Gun to attack approaching enemies, healing teammates with his Dispenser, and create a shortcut with his two Teleporter buildings. (tf2portal.de)

    The Medic

The Medic was one of the most popular flag runner classes in the good old Team Fortress Classic. Thanks to the new source engine, Robin Walker, boss of TFC and the father of TFC could finally improve the Medic’s performance to what he had in mind for a long time. The offense and defense characteristics of the Medic have been adapted by a great deal. As traditionally the case, the Medic can slowly regenerate his own HP and has a high movement speed, but relatively low HP. Due to the reason that Medics only seldom score direct kills because of their relatively weak weaponry, it is a class that is not highly preferred amongst many players although its services are gladly accepted. On the other hand, the Medic is the perfect teamplayer class and an extremely important member of every effective TF2 party. Although it is a relative easy-to-play class that is well-suited for beginners, the Medic is hard to master. (tf2portal.de)

    The Sniper

The sniper is the perfect long range fighting class. With his sniper rifle, he can take out enemies over large distances with one single shot. Like the scout, the sniper has only a limited amount of health points.
The system, which determines the strength of the shot from your sniper rifle has been modified since TFC. As soon as you enter your zoomed view, the energy bar to the left will charge itself. If you leave the zoomed state, the energy you accumulated will be lost and will start over charging once you enter the zoomed state again.

With a fully charged, well aimed shot, even the Heavy Weapons Guy will die instantly. In close combat, the sniper relies on his kukri and his SMG. Snipers are the preferred prey of enemy spies, so you should choose your sniper-nest wisely.
In the sniper vs. spy update our fellow Australian was equipped with the huntsman - a bow. Additionally, the newly introduced "Jarate", which is basically sniper-piss brought Mini-Crits to Team Fortress 2, which are being dealt to players, that previously got hit by the snipers urine.

Moreover, the newly introduced Razorback enabled snipers to be a little more competitive against enemy spies, because it blocks one spy backstab once equipped. (tf2portal.de)

    and The Spy

As in Team Fortress Classic the Spy can disguise himself as a member of the enemy team. In addition, he has Electro Sappers at his disposal with which he can deactivate and destroy enemy Sentry Guns and he is now able to render himself invisible to the enemy team for defined period of time. Please note that while he is invisible the Spy can not attack enemies or place sappers.

In contrast to the other classes in Team Fortress 2, Spies should not seek the confrontation in frontline battle but take advantage of their special abilities and surprise their enemies when they least expect it. Spy attacks are most effective when carried out from behind and when a Spy uses his Butterfly Knife in a backstab attack he can kill enemies with a single strike. If the Spy puts on a disguise he looks exactly like a member of the enemy team to enemy team players but to his own comrades he remains a spy and the fact that he is disguised is indicated by his wearing a cardboard mask with the face of the player class he chose for disguise.

Because Spies are hard to discern from real members of the team it happens every once in a while that they are healed by enemy Medics or are even given an Übercharge. As soon as the Spy uses his Knife or Revolver he automatically drops his disguise. With ammopacke the spy is able to recharge its stealth ability. You can also wait to reload the ability which will take more time. (tf2portal.de)

I personally prefer the normal cloack watch

So that's it, hope you enjoy Team Fortress 2 and playing on the Lethal Zone servers, see you there. ;)

And maybe we could also make an ingame chat notice to look in here if f2p players are unsure with their class.
