So i made a new script to clean out all old sprays/replays/logs and such from all the server. I think it cleaned up to 3.000.000 sprays and i dont know about 200gb of replays and another 50gb logging.. Since i never really payed attention to it since storage is not a issue i did clean it up because i got a tip that this would fix the lag spikes you get when players join and leave. I played some time today on dustbowl (just a example) and have not seen a single spike since. Hopefully this will improve overal gameplay, and its scheduled to clean every day now that everthing older then 7 days gets nuked. Ofcourse there will always be lag, i cant fix all lag but that can be isp/network/whatever but anything i can fix on our side is a pro ofcourse. For me overal gameplay has improved over several servers.
p.s. did the same with CSS too and l4d/l4d2 although i dont know as much on that part as tf2.. but a cleanup is always good.
You should nuke any older then 1/2 a day. it gets re-uploaded anyway when ppl rejoin. Also, moving away logs and other crap etc is also a good thing.
Wow, that's a pretty huge amount of "useless" stuff. Why do replays stay on the server by default ? If you don't save them during your current spawn life you can't get them afterward anyway...
normally all replays get offloaded to the ftp server, which is offered via http because we have multiple servers. When offloading doesn't work or the server is just stupid it also keeps it locally.
This news pretty much made my evening. Been having lagspikes more and more frequently recently, so I hope this should help sort them out, so I can get back to finding another excuse for my performances...
Snel, you ain't gonna see me saying this much: I love ya! Hated those spikes Thnx for helping over this problem^^
