i've read the discussion about the unlockable weapons and their usefullness/gamebreaking/idiocy over in the engi update thread, and i thought it was interesting enough to warrant it's own thread. so, which of the alternate weapons do you actually use, and why or why not? on my scout i use the FaN for the triplejump. as pyro i have the homewrecker so i can be the ultimate sentry-defender. as medic of course the ubersaw and on more fast paced maps and sometimes on defense the kritzkrieg. as heavy i use natasha and the sandvich. as demo i switch between everything, depending on my playstyle that moment, though for sentryhunting i actually prefer the pill-launcher to the stickies. in the very few instances when i actually play spy i use the CnD. And i never play Snipe or Solly. generally i go for whatever gives me the most utility and support-capability. so, how 'bout you?
for scout I use the normal load out, except sometimes, when we are with a low amount of players and there is a sentry, then I use bonk. for pyro I use the flaregun and axethinguisher, soldier: equalizer, If there is a sentry we can't take out I go for the direct hit, and on a rare defending occasion I use the buff banner. demo is flexible just as with neeko, for heavy I use everything. same goes for medic and medic, although huntsman is only for fun with friends, not for serious things. I don't play spy enough to really have a favorite loadout.
soldier: vanilla, only equalizer (not realy a downgrade there) demo: vanilla (sometime demoknight on instarespawn to get some laughs) medic: normal needle gun + ubersaw, kritzkrieg when needed/usefull (2kritzkrieg ubers does'nt destroy a sentrynest) pyro: axtinguisher, sometimes flaregun but still mostly equip my shotty, BB rarely on dustbowl scout: vanilla, fan triplejump don't realy see the use for it in normal gameplay, stunball is prety useless now (sometimes bonk to get past a sentry) spy: vanilla + C&D (again not realy a downgrade) sniper: shiv (always), jarate (not always), huntsman (just to show how spammy it is and how frickin easy it gets HS) but don't play sniper often heavy: vanilla, sandvich. never play heavy (allmost 500 hours solly, 450 demo, 300 medic... and 23 heavy should say enough) weapons i realy hate, FaN knockback (sometimes stopping you dead in your tracks without even hitting you from point blank), natasha (slow down is TO slow, you get hit again on long distance when the last bullet's effect wares off so easy picking for other enemy's), demo sword (ridiculousy wide range), scottish resistance (blowing up a group of sticky's that they are not looking at), razorback (well just shoot the sniper he's dead before he can shoot back), gunboats (trading in you SG for less rocketdamage??? learn to jump)
Scout - Only bonk when the team asks for it. No other unlocks. I love my pistol too much. Soldier - Only equilizer. Pyro - Only Axethinguisher. Demoman - Nothing. Heavy - Only sandwich when I have a pocket-medic, always KGB. Engineer- Medic - Ubersaw, Blutsauger (or normal of I have a reliant buddy), Kritz/Uber are interchangeable depending on the situation. Sniper - Nothing. Spy - Nothing. Unlocks that I think Valve shouldn't have implemented / don't fit the Class role - Tribalman's shiv, why would you want to give someone a DoT when you are using your last resort weapon in a situation you shouldn't be in in the first place. - Skullcutter / Sword, Fun but doesn't fit the role. - Camp 'n' dagger, slows down the whole game and only works if you are actually telling other people on your team something. The rest of the time it's just a waste of a slot. - Sandman, taking away player control in an FPS with no possibility of returning fire is stupid. I'm glad it's actually acceptable now. - Homewrecker, why would anyone uber a pyro for him to waste halve of the uber meleeing a building? Bloody stupid and not what the pyro should be doing. The removing sapper part is funny, but you shouldn't be there as a pyro all the time anyway. List of best to worse updates (without community weapons) - Medic - Soldier - Heavy - Pyro - Scout - Sniper - Spy - Demoman Valve should stop implementing these fanboy weapons, since those unlocks are 90% horrible, not achievable and poorly implemented.
demo: eyelander and stickie launcher, the stickie launcher is just so practical and i cant get jused to the aiming at your stickies from the other thingy medic: bluthslayer - medigun (low amount of players kritzkrieg) and ubersaw (what idiot juses the bonesaw? ) pyro: axtinguisher, if i need to protect a sentry ill just keep my flames going, no spy will come to close to that. flamethrower! evendo my blast doesnt work all the time for some reason i still juse it and my best friend, the flaregun!! love that scout: mostly FAN, can do some nice damage in a short time and the jump can be fun if your just fuckin around, pistol and sandman (for humiliation) spy: cloack and dagger and against friends somthimes a dead ringer. and the revolver. (if i need to take out razorback snipers ill take the ambassador) sniper: shiv (always), jarate, huntsman/rifle (never play it sniper only pussy's play sniper) heavy: sacha, i just dont realy like the less damage of natascha, sandvich for my medic, fists because i love the pow! weapons i realy hate, demo sword (ridiculousy wide range), razorback (well just shoot the sniper he's dead before he can shoot back), and that bloody shield! its the most shitty thing they have ever come up with!
and i so bloody hate it that every update there comes somthing that turns out bad for the pyro, next time when im going after an engi he can take me out in 1 shot (if i allready lost some hp) ANOTHER disadvantage for pyro
ehm, i've recently (read: today) destroyed my whole equipment for a...certain artifact. but i'll just say what i would have equipped! Scout: normal stuff + max's pistol(lugermorph), sometimes bonk for sentries. i don't really like the FAN, don't know why, probably the reloading. and the 115 health only with sandman is not enough health for me. pyro: with axetinguisher = flare + axe + normal flamethrower, without = flamethrower + shottie + homewrecker. ( i still don't have an axe ) axe + flare + flamethrower, fire + axe = deadly. without is useful for helping engineers etc. spy: cloak and dagger + the big kill usually i had the Deadringer, but i usually infiltrate in the enemy base then in direct contact with enemies, so the CnD is more usefull for that. sniper: Jarate + shiv + huntsman I love bows. makes me feel like an indian! piss is useful for getting yourself and teammates wet after a nice pyro made us on fire. shiv, the afterdamage! soldier: normal + equalizer i grew up with Quake 3 Rocketlaunchers, aim for the feet!^^ shotties for finish offs and equalizer to bring me in safety if i'm almost DEAD. heavy: sascha (sometimes natascha) + shottie with medic, sandvich without medic + fists. medic: ubersaw + blutsauger + medic gun or kritz (depends on situation) demoman: normal stuff..unless i'm in a crazy mood and want to cut some heads. (shield + eyelander) engineer: Max's pistol(lugermorph) I tried to make it look less chaotic =(
so, destroyed all your toys in a mad bid for power then, eh? can't say i didn't try myself, though i did stop when i ran out of things for my offclasses. wasnt quite crazy enough to cash in the weapons i actually use, no golden wrench is worth crampin' my style for it. got no wrench of course, but at least the spiffy medic facemask which i was dying to get as well.
have 2 unused tokens i want to smelt to a reclaimed metal... buuuuut because of this stupid shit going on i'll have to wait untill friday where i can FINALY craft me a hat, and god forbid the game to give me some shitty hat... like a hatless scout engineer or sniper... those should be for everyone ...
the token->metal recipe still works, i personally melted down about 6 tokens yesterday night. the recipes they locked were only the ones which downgrade your metal again
wait whut?? man  what the hell happend to the good ol' TF2 :s i realy miss it, i wished valve would had released only 1!!! unlock per class and never (weird to say this) released payload... good maps like well and granary are beeing RTV away because clearly they SUCK at TF2... it's realy turned into a kiddyland with babytoys...
Medic: übersaw, kritz when the game asks for it; blutsauger is not credit to team Scout: FaN rarely when I feel like hit 'n run, bonk when I need it and the sandman always because it's just unfair when used right Soldier: direct hit, gunboats and equalizer; I always play Soldier when I get sick of the game and just want to jump around and kick some ass Demoman: vanilla, sometimes eyelander Spy: ambassador and deathringer Engineer: Laser sentry and- What do you say? Not implemented yet? G'dammit... But I would go for the Frontier Justice anyway Pyro: flaregun and axethinguisher Sniper: jarate and shiv, huntsman when I want to annoy people again, like back in the good ol' days Heavy: Natasha when the game asks for it, sandvich and good ol' fists for the taunt In my opinion, community weapons should be small sidegrades that would not make a major change in the game and be used on occasion, to bring some more variety in the game and make people laugh when someone actually finds the right moment for it. But the shiv is just unfair, it's an outright upgrade, slipped in the game with some community shipment, that gives a class an unnecessary boost against it's counter. Homewrecker worthless? Good, good, it should be, it's some small update anyway. Too bad they made it also sap sappers. When a Pyro camps in a sentry nest, Spies are useless... (Well... I had this one time where I backstabbed an Engie, sapped his sentry, turned around headshotted and killed the Pyro with a bodyshot, then facestabbed another Engineer that came to the rescue. Good times... Good times...)
hehe, luckily not everything.(learned my lesson when crafting was first released^^) kept some of the stuff i thought I really couldn't miss ^^ + it makes me happy again if i receive something I lost! (aka dropping system is useful again.) whoops, thanks for the notice! ^^
Why does everyone think the Shiv is an upgrade? Sounds like a downgrade to me. Having less damage on the weapon I would only use when I've spend all my smg ammo, I missed my rifle shot, and someone is really close to me. Don't you just want to kill said person then instead of inflict DoT?
Well, you shouldn't underestimate the power of afterdamage. it's a lot more nasty than afterburn since they can't get rid of it. not even with a healthkit. I usually give a lot damage an enemy as sniper and with that extra hit of which 8 hp keeps ticking off really helps to kill that enemy.
