I've watched a month ago some documentations about Stephe Hawking and his Space theories Spoiler (Although Professor Hawking discounts the value of numerical IQ's, he admitted that his own is likely very high (it has been suggested as 160 or more). // http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_Steph ... ing%27s_IQ It's damn crazy, he explained if there would be a scientific train on the earth driving around the earth (36k km) he can get 99% of the light-speed because NOTHING is faster than the LIGHT everywhere, anytime. Its was and will never be possible. The train needs 1 light year to get up to light speed and 1 light year to stop, if I understood this right. 1 Week on the earth is 1 day on that train. Also he explained, if there would a spaceship ( so huge you cant even image;.... it must be soooooo huge -.^), and you get up to light speed (99%) 1 day on the spaceship is 75 years on the earth.. wow, so incredrible. The most far away Spoiler ( owh damn thats right grammar?) satellite is now 13billions km away. it was started 1983 on the earth. And the megaspaceship as I said would need like 124987482742847827842 billion years on light speed to get to the end of our space that we know. Do you know how the space looks like? Like this http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJ ... age004.jpg the milcway looks like this picture too^^ there are billionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillions stars in 1 galaxie and there are billionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillionsbillions of galaxies in the universe of this complained a "room" and they a increasing their field( they are drifting away, its getting bigger and bigger) I think with millions of km per minute or second. And 1 VERY INTERESTING FACT is when he explained that "time" is really hard to definate. The mass of a planet sets the "time". If there is the earth -> <- 1min = 60sec and a big planet with humans -> ::::: <- 1min = 1000sec just an example . Hope you had fun while reading this. But im not sure if i was exact with every dates/or specific speed because it was 6hours of documentions.
Yeah it's pretty cool! When people talk about never I always say: Just 100 years ago, people said that we would never go faster than 700km per hour, that we would never walk on the moon and that we'd never cure certain diseases that are now extinct. The world is a crazy place, and I don't get care if people say that something is never going to be possible. There is always a way. We might never find it, but there must be a way.
E=mc² And yeah all that is a damn interesting topic, I actually wanted to study that, but im just not maths and physics freak enough to get into all this. :?
"I'm simply saying Life uh, finds a way." sorry immediately thought about Jurassic Park, when you said that last line  but after all they're just theories, not facts. who knows what we will create in the future BUT BEFORE 2012 what will prove that theory wrong. with science, enough test subjects and the research we can do, we might be able to do moar wonderful things later on ^^
Stephen Hawking has nothing to do with what you say...it's all Einstein. Einstein proofed that no one could travel faster then lightspeed, so we could go theoretically @ 99,999% of lightspeed. Same as we could never get to absolute zero ( 0 Kelvin). To explain it simply: Einsteind said if we could travel faster then the speed of light we would run over ourselfs when running around a chair. If you like this kind of stuff read the scientific comic: The forever war (movie is coming soon, cant wait) Spoiler It visualize the problems with traveling at 99,999% of lightspeed Stephen Hawking is know for his theoretical idea's about the universe...(he also tries to proof them ofc) He write books that you and me can understand, about the plausible theory's of the universe...As you would have read or watched on a documentary. ( He sais if someone cant understand your work, you dont understand it, so he writes books that everyone can understand) His biggest breakthrough is the Hawking radition (therminal radition to detect a black hole) Some idea's are: Multiple universes (idea is original from a philosopher) We have a N universe, so there would be other universes where the most used element is O, C, H etc...(Chaotic inflation theory or bubble universes) Fluctuation level is calculated by Stephen Hawking. Other dimensions (many worlds interpretation) We cant travel into time (problem with paradoxes) but we can go through an other dimension where you made that choice...so as everytime there is made an alternative interpretation, an other universe is created. (He is int MWI camp with the Everett interpretation: universes as a wave to collapse in time) ETC... Again: all these theoretical ideas are not only Hawkings ideas, it are all combined works of multiple geniuses... He is formost a great science advocate, but none the less a genius.
Well i saw some documentation about einstein too, so i guess i mixed it a little. You already thought about time traveling? In the future no problem, you use your mega spaceship and travel with lightspeed. But in the past? Its unpossible. We would have seen people from the future already wouldnt we? The only solution they found, they must be in a parallel universe? But 1 question i ask me is: if there are multiplie universes why hasnt anybody been in ours? I mean .. 1 universe must be chosen or?
The one you talk about is the many worlds interpretation: why we havent seen a timetraveler? I guess whenever you could travel through these dimensions and picked what you wanted to alter in the past, you would take in the place of your own with the choses you wanted to make. But going back in time isnt possible, you just go into the altered present. Or I definitly keep this invention to myself  I can change my life as much as I want. And going into the future by slowing down your biological timereading (99% lightspeed) isnt of any use to me, because you cant go back in time (to for example tell the right lotto numbers). You only can witness more then somebody else...but you are forever alone
So if i'm correct, you're saying that if I go back in time, i'm actually creating a different dimension because otherwise I would have already seen myself in the orginal dimension which could totally disrupt the space-time..god damnit, stay away back to the future references
No you would be going to the other world (other dimension) (dont know exactly witch one 6th?) that already existed before you...multiple world interpretation (its just an theory, but the most plausible, wiki it). You dont travel into time, you just go to the universe where you for example are King...(instead of going back in to time to make your grand grand grandfather famous by telling him how to produce paperclips or a pen)
I watched a pretty interesting program about space; it was on James May's Things You Need to Know. Our sun is most likely a third generation star, that is to say the matter that it comprises of has already been part of 2 or more stars that have died. Of all the matter in the universe, what we can see in the conventional sense makes up only 5%, the majority of the rest is supposedly dark energy, that we cannot see, cannot feel and cannot detect. This is all highly theoretical of course. If a supernova happens with 25 light years of earth we will be wiped out. Blackholes are formed by certain supernovas, where a star explodes then collapses in on itself, all of its matter is pulled together into a singularity; which is smaller than an atom. The gravitational pull is so strong that light cannot escape, that's why it is black. Neutron Stars left over after supernovas can be about the size of the city of London, and weigh twice as much as the sun. The end of the universe is so far away it is 10,000 times longer than the amount of time the universe has already existed. The most probable theory about how the universe will end is that all matter in the universe will be gathered together in huge black holes, they will be 100 times further apart than the current size of the universe, these will eventually fizzle away to nothing and the universe will be empty. Those are some of the more interesting facts i learnt/already knew about space
Said in another way : the universe will continue expanding, putting more distance between galaxies, and it will be harder and harder for stars to be created (because stars need a lot of matter gathering and heating to bear). The universe will then enter an era in which stars all slowly die without leading to new stars because of the lack of essential materials consumed by the generations of stars. Space will become colder and colder, leading to what I think is called the "black era" : there will only be dead star bodies floating in space. Another theory is that when the pushing force resulting of the big bang will be canceled, the gravity force will pull back together all of the matter the universe contains today, resulting in one big matter body, gaining density and heat in a way it will explode again and create a new big bang, and this is going on again and again... There are other theories I read but they are mostly derivatives of these two.
Yeah it is the most probable one. Ordinary matter (like stars, intergalactic gas etc.) occupies only ~4% of universe. Other 96% - dark matter and dark energy.
Ye this was another theory mentioned on the program, sounds more probable to me but who am i to say that
Yeah I thought they already figured out that we are already slowing down in our expansion... And to be fair the black hole theory never could happen. why? because a black hole doesnt absorb everything most of it is blasted out above and below.
Isnt that a gamma flash as a result of a supernova? A black hole is just such concentrated mass, that everything is absorbed by its gravity force, even light.
Actually the black hole theory is the number 1 most agreed theory - as in most scientists agree it is the most likely end of the universe.
nope the expansion of the universe isn't slowing down! It's actually increasing! They thought gravity will pull everything back, but gravity is losing to some other force that we haven't seen yet. They even think that by the increasing speed of expansion, atoms will be ripped apart when the "force" gets stronger than the force an atom has to stay together. Thus called "the big rip" on another note: black holes eat material. But black holes also explode material back into space, thus creating the matter for new stars and galaxys. There is a giant black hole in each milky way. We are pretty far from ours. If i'm not mistaken, blackholes eat and eat and eat until they explode when they die.
yes thats right +1. The universe will be a empty black place with a that huge room with some stars... even the earth will be a lonely planet the system we know now wont existend ... Did you also know how the universe was created? In the beginning the was Spoiler (i hope that materie and anti-materie are english words too). materie but there was anti-materie. It was getting hotter, there was an explosion or implosion not sure at all, but there happened so much things IN 1 SECOND and you know the humans already have gathered like 89129837127389128937812937891273891289389719231198238912 ultra mega nano billion milliseconds of information of this single second. And after the explosion the galaxies was 10billions degress hot, gas was all around. Throught the gas were planets created and so on bla bla bla... first bakterium etc. .
