I don't know if people around here knows what is going on in my country; but here's a short summary to those who's interested(and i hope the interest would grow larger). In Istanbul, there's the Taksim Square which is comparably the largest square in whole Turkey. And around that square, there's the "Gezi Parkı" which has some interesting historical remains and approx. 650 trees. Our PM ordered most of that park to be taken down to build a shopping center. And after this, a group of people started protesting this decision and tried to stop the workers from taking down the trees, planted new trees in order to restore the ones cut and so on. "Our" police, which is directly connected to the PM tried stopping them with some pepper gas bombs and with force. Then the crowd grew larger and larger in 4 days, which was able to stop the police! And this didn't only last with Istanbul but many other cities and parks in Turkey(police kept using heavy and unproportional force with Panzers, TOMAs and thousands of pepper gas bombs everywhere!) Also if you people paid any attention to these, you might've noticed that some protests are going around in Europe and the USA too. Some soldiers here passively started supporting the crowds with gas masks and lemons against the gas, lots of people opened their homes to the ones injured and hungry and hotels started to take people in all free just to help. Even prostitutes and trans people are taking people inside their places to help their wounds and help them recover. The government's internet provider is trying to take down Twitter and Facebook, but we also have the Redhack helping against the government's blockades, and own ways to save our internet. I have no idea why I actually posted this here, maybe to awaken the public awareness. But this has gone out of hand like this isn't only a "save the trees" thing but "government go home, quit this". And this place is about to become like the famous Tahrir Square, hopefully not as bloody(although there are some people dead already...) If you people want any additional sources to look for more and learn more about these, use these keywords to google things around: taksim gezi parkı, taksim eylemleri, taksim protestoları, #direngeziparkı Hope you guys learn more about this cause and start supporting like joining local Turks' protests or some online signature campaigns and so on. OC *Also to those who would be asking me why I don't join the protests, 2 reasons. We got our car at the repairs so we can't travel to Istanbul. And sadly I got asthma so pepper gas would give me a nice near-death experience
Yeah heard about this in the news briefly today... some mad shit in the world... keep safe though D: EDIT: This pretty much: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22740282
Starting to like Turks more and more. Good luck with it all,we've had our share of protest here and they are never pretty, and rarely yield results.Hopefully they are going to call off the construction. All hail the Turkish Tree Revolution! Also thanks for posting this!
Yeah my family is talking about this (I'm half turkish myself). My grandparents and aunt wanted to fly to Turkey next week, but after we all heard about this we are not so sure to let them go when theres a "riot" going on in Turkey. People get injured, killed, arrested. Please watch out for yourself and keep safe OC This demonstration WILL get bigger. Patron kim bu Erdoğan göster!
Thanks a lot for the support guys. I really appriciate it. And to relieve you guys, I'm safe here. The majority of the protests are almost 100 kms away from here but still, it keeps growing larger and I think there are some little protests going on here too. But the municipality and the majority of the people here aren't on the government's side, so things won't get too big here. And I'll be telling you people the recent news through here if you wonder what's going on. HELL YEAH!
Some news here: It was reported that the police's fire was halted the whole day. After the sunset, pepper bombs and sheer force began again over the people who are just sitting there, and the Chief Constable of Istanbul got fired because he "couldn't get a hold over the protesters and couldn't make safety and peace". Also the main opposition party's leader canceled his meeting in Kadıköy(at the Anatolian side of Istanbul) and gathered 40.000 people and crossed over the Bosphorus Bridge early today. Here's how it looks like: This isn't the actual picture which gives the better view, can't find it anywhere but newspapers. *Here's the actual picture that i wanted to show you people: Anyways, will go on reporting what's happening.
That's how we roll in politics: 1. Make something utterly stupid 2. Blame another person for your fault 3. ??? 4. Profit
Ehh things got weird though. Some say cops started using Agent Orange which was last seen in the Vietnam War. Some say they use real bullets. Some say that nothing's happening! It all got complicated and people lost their hype, or that's what they want us to see... Carries tonnes of vehicles per day, since 1980 with many maintenances
I strongly doubt they'd use Agent Orange. This stuff leaves you burned and disfigured. It's main purpose is to get rid of vegetation. You can't really shoot it, so it would have to be used in the water canons. If they'd have used it, you should prepare for generations if babies with 6 arms and 1 leg etc. Arabic spring in Turkey? Will you actually get rid of the government you think?
Agent Orange is just a rumor, no legit proof so far. Also, this is definately not an Arabic Spring. "Turkish Tree Revolution" just like STJ said and what I rather call. Although, the chances for people to overthrow the government is not so high. But I'm almost sure that they will be more cautious about people's resistance and the will to revolt. Also, our founder Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK has a saying which goes like "It is hard to get the Turkish people to make a revolution. But when they start doing it, nothing can simply stop it.". Everyone was hoping for our PM to get all this resistance and things but he just said "We will take down that park and Atatürk Cultural Center in the middle of Taksim and make a mall and a mosque in their places. I'm not going to ask for permission to Kılıçdaroğlu(who is the head of the main opposition party CHP) or a few marauders(refers to the thousands of people out on the streets, he definately doesn't get the purpose of all these...).". So yeah, that's the news on his side. Other than that resistance seems to be growing larger at our capital Ankara and a grand city nearby it, Eskişehir. If things get real big and soldiers keep staying away from this, at least not being on the government's side, things can get way worse for the government! *Here's a link to what could enlighten you people in the easiest way: http://edition.cnn.com/2013/06/01/world ... index.html Will we reporting more soon as I read more.
Im not sure, but a friend of mine in Turkey told me that they start to protest also in Marmaris, Icemeler , Bodrum and Koycegiz. And he told me something interesting i haven't thought about. He woks in Marmaris holiday work, and he told me that people are protesting agains the gouverment thats losing more and more the connection with what Turkey is associated with. As AtaTurk has been fighting for 110 years ago. An open and Free country that's not powered by the faith of the Islam (if i say this correct) as seen in Egypt and so on. They believe that Gül wants to make an Islamic state of Turkey. Im not sure if this is correct , i acutally dont care that much other politics since its in my own country bad as hell.
You're mostly right about what you said, but needs a few touches Egypt is worse than before Mubarak, thousands of people dieing each month. I just hope things don't turn out to be like that in here. And it's not Gül who wants the Islamic state. It's our PM Erdoğan. He just ignores all secularist policies of Atatürk and with each word of his, he speaks about Islam. We have a big population of Christians, Jewish, Atheists and even Buddhists and other minor beliefs. Never thinks about the others but the people in his party, that's the biggest problem of his. Manipulation of religion, press, patriotism and everything the people of a country worries about. Also those are the biggest strengths of his. I think I will just stand around for a while more and see where this is going to. Then I and my family could think of something different. Let's just hope things turn out to end in the best way for Turkey.
Hm yes i think also that Mubarak is much better then the shithole from the Islamic brotherhood or how they are called. I thought Erdogan was the guy who was pro Western ? And Gül was the person who was pro Islam, then is my question why did people vote last time for Erdogan ? Or is it the same shit as happend in Russia manipulation of the votes ? And promise stuff you never will do ? I went a couple of times to Turkey not only for just have a nice time at the beach but also to visit friends of mine in local towns,m actually started to learn turkish to understand the people better. Maybe a stupid idea, but why not start a revoluation against the sitting gov, and demand to keep the thoughts , rules and Secularist Policies as Ataturk brought to Turkey ? If million of peoples are against you , you should think about changing your stategy or just stop ? Or am i that stupid ?
Mubarak was slightly better, yeah.. Erdoğan is the pro islamic guy, Gül is slightly better but they are from the same pile of shit. Erdoğan manipulates and buys votes with handing out pasta, coal, electronic devices and etc. He promises lots of things he is never going to do. Atatürk brought seven policies to Turkey. Erdoğan ignores every single one of those and is trying to make his own dictatorship, that's what we fear. He just loves the way herules over people, nothing's ever going to keep him from doing what he knows if people doesn't revolt. And lol you're not stupid at all, just not enough enlightened about Turkish politics
Another update people, from my town. You may not see clearly from the picture but I bet there's at least a thousand people over the bridge and around!
German state secretary says: The Turks have to handle this situation and try to avoid riots. Dem politics, they are such masterminds <.<
In the late news here Erdogan said im not a dictator im just doing my job ? You saw that interview to ?
