I wasn't aware if this until today (thx 9gag xd). I watched the whole video, the other video Rex posted in the other thread but with my little happy brain it's not fully clear to me. Mainly: Why? What is all this shit for? They claim it's against piracy but TotalBuscuit had good points there against it. Shut down all the largest websites? That's not how you fight piracy... What I would lime to know is how this will affect us here in Europe. Will lethal-zone.eu be taken down or blocked because there youtube videos posted here? They want to block all websites that can possibly share pirated media. This scares the shit out of me. There will be like nothing to do on the internet. I want to know more about this and your opinions. And correct me if i get this thing wrong. I don't the internet to be ruined...
Its for the u.s. only.. But the problem is that the root servers are pretty much all owned by the u.s. too, so effectly they could change your dns entries and shut down your machine (this is outside u.s.) In europe we are still to choose what we want, but if they manage to pull it off, i would assume they will do the same for europe too. To keep it simple, they want to create the same thing as in japan.. goverment doesn't like a site, and they shut it down. They had some issues with google showing url's to sites they didn't want them to send to and they just shut down google (without the help of google ofcourse) thats what they want in the u.s. too. So for instance some noob comes to our website and points to a mp3 file which is copyright.. BAM our side can be taken down, thats pretty much it. So far we dont live in the u.s. and we are hosted in germany so we are safe for now. But if google and other big names step up to the plate you can be damn sure its business.
If im right then SOPA is some kind of an internet block or US? Or i just dont understand the whole thing.
Actually, Google is pretty clearly against SOPA and PIPA right now (<a class="postlink" href="https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/</a>). I don't think they will help taking down sites even if the laws are adopted . I think the most dangerous part of the SOPA project is to let the entertainment industry decide what should be taken down... It shows that these industrial groups have a lot of power (especially in the US), they're not trying to protect culture or art, they're only trying to make more money than they already do (if they didn't make money at all because of piracy, they would have stopped producing movies, video games and such). IMO these rules they want to create are too restrictive to be put in application, and with the huge protest movement that's going on since some weeks (who didn't notice the Wikipedia blackout ? ) it's just impossible that the American congress makes SOPA concrete.
This is the yet-to-be-approved-by-the-EU version for the whole world. <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Counterfeiting_Trade_Agreement" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Count ... _Agreement</a>
