I don't see the use of the shotgun, it's a short range weapon just like the flamethrower, so either you play with 2 short range weapons (which means 99% of the time you use the 'thrower) or you play with both a long and a short range weapon, which is so much more useful imo..
Well my style of playing requires the use of shotgun. I'm always very carefulu when playing as pyro due to the fact that pyro is very easy target. Usually I just jump in and find a way to survive after that. And shotgun is perfect retreat or pursuit weapon.
If u are used to the scout weapons, if u have some aim and u can use double jump well the scout new weapons suck.
I do agree that the heavy and scout updates were less succesful. Although I don't think its uber evil I still have some moral difficulty with the stun, but not simply because it doesnt belong in a fps. I also find the natasha less useful than sasha, and I don't use the KGB either because I'm usually more likely to get a taunt kill than using melee as heavy Neither do I equip the flaregun, and I regulary switch between the BB and normal flamer, depending on the situation, my current playstyle and such. I do not equip the fan because the 2 shots piss me off, but I do use the sandman simply because the stun is often more useful than the DJ, and it's just fun to do. Careless of the noobyness of it, and not really for kills. Just for fun and helping pthers eg snipers out. But I do like the fact they exist, and I think that if someone wants to weild the unlockable or the normal, they should be able and allowed to do so without being insane superevil noobs from hell. Ps, I can see a bit of your point at the scout, you put a lot of time into playing a rather difficult class, and now they make scouts more easy and in inexperienced hands just annoying. I now how you fell and can agree in some level. However, the update does make the scout a more playable class a lot of other players. Your style of play however is still possible, there are probably just mroe scouts around.
No long answers anymore meta? No more discussions? Such a shame. You are so right. I could do that, but why should I choose scout when there are 3 others? And you can't really dual an FaN scout given that only 1 of the 12 pellets already gives knockback. Therefore I choose soldier, I liked Rocketarena for Quake and it is propably the last class to update. So Valve can't screw it yet.
there will be \I just got other stuff on my mind atm so you just gotta wait. btw scout rush has lowered there arent all that many scouts anymore, just usually more than 0 like before the update.
1 day... just 1 day I didn't find time to read in this thread and now you guys made an huge lecture... after reading everything I'm with meta here. and @ L1nkie en Ps.'je the downside of becoming very good in a game is that the rest of the world sucks in your eyes. just a few days ago I played with a guy who just bought the game, he couldn't do a shit for the team. I'm sure l1nk would have called him a stupid noob and stuff. I tried to help him and explained as much as I could, that makes him become better much faster. it's not like you guys bought the game and instantly became these "gaming gods" When I play, there are quite some players I look up to. and when the rare case comes that I kill for instance link in a scout vs scout with a FaN it makes my day. but if he kills me (again>.>) it doesn't matter shit to him (I guess)
Heheh, now thats a feeling I can relate to with killvion. I do remember when I played tf2 with a friend, I couldn't kill anyone. And still if I beat some "good player" whom I know well, that makes my day
There is a big difference between Newbs and Noobs. I don't mind when someone is a newb, as long as they listen to people that know the game, and accept the fact that they do not know everything. I can't stand noobs though. Ignorant bastards. I still think that unlockables should cather those that like the class and play it a lot. Not make it more accesable. When I bought the game I already had 2-3 year of CS under my belt and 1-2 years of Quake. I was pretty much able to aim and click. And it took me maybe 2-3 rounds of each gametype to figure out what the meaning was. Read the ingame tips, play medic for starters, look what everyone else is doing, use a thing called common sense. Maybe these 32playerinstantrespawndicerollpartymodespambowl servers are screwing with there minds. It is mighty hard to find a vanilla server these days so new people are not giving the right experience and don't care about teamwork, don't care about objectives. Once again I don't mind Newbs, I hate noobs. Get your meme right.
I liked it more when you used the "-" 's between the words  [qoute] Once again I don't mind Newbs, I hate noobs. Get your meme right. [/quote] I say you should help and live with both. the biggest challange in the game, after hundreds of hours playtime, is to help a newbie or change the attitude of a noob. maybe as admin that last is a bit easier because you have a bit more status for not regulars. anyway, I have servers to fill might wanna join me?
You know you can use the quote button again and copy paste something in there. The other replies are below your reply in the post-reply section. I love to help newbs because they are listening and trying to improve. Noobs can't be helped in 80% of the cases. They are just thinking that whatever they think is right.
Technicly there first was the term new player aka beginner, put together as newbie. newbie became newb. newb became noob, since internet users love phonetics. and now we re getting n00b or nub or even naab. So in that way the woirds mean practicly the same. However through the evolution of the word and the hostile online world (everyone always seems to love hating eachother), players that were playing stupid were called noobs, as to be insulting by saying they were enw players while they really weren't. However the term noob, as you use it (and you are right - dont get me wrong) is now used to refer to players that play stupidly or not the 1337 way Ps and L!nk say they play (actually referring to 80% of all players but really meant to the real stupiud 20%). My point is simply that you point towards the now established difference between noob an newb while they came from the same place really Note: I don't say you're wrong nor am I trying to start a discussion I jsut wanted to point out something interesting though I'm sure you will disagree anyway Now for the discussion part ( ): As I said before I can very well see how you feel about the 'noobing down' of the class with the update. I think the medic and pyro updates were succesful, the heavy was less because the weaponds arent that useful where eg the medics' are. The scout update has given interesting weapons, but they changed the class a little to much than I would have liked. You are making all hell of it, in my eyes slightly exaggerating, but then again I'm not a usual scout. So I can see how you fell but simply said I think you whine a bit too much about it. You do have a basic point, but a bit too much else around it. Then again I wonder, what would you have wanted as a weapon? Not a lot of players are usual scouts, and very little are as good as you discribe yourself, no doubt that you are. But you are good with what you have, so wouldnt every new weapon be different and thus bad? or would you have liked the same weapons but with worse aim, range, damage? Would be plain stupid to choose them then. I do not like weilding or fighting against the fan, I think the atomic punch is a bit weird (although it does fit the meet the scout movie), and the sandman can be fun but also annoying. Bad when in good hands and bad when in bad hands. So yes I think the scout update could have been better, but I wouldnt know HOW exactly or how not to piss you off with it. I have to go now so I'll rest my case atm
Agreed, please don't make us sound like elitist jerks Indeed they come from the same place, but as the Newb accept it and tries to learn and improve by taking advice. The noob will never accept and think he knows all. Some people have suggested weapons that cather more to the scout aspect of his hit-and-run playstyle. For the primary weapon, a gun that starts out with 50% and buids up to 150% damage, in 4 steps, with every shot hit on the same target. Pop in for a quick shot or 2. You won't kill the guy unless he is injured, and if he fails to kill you, you can return later and send him back to the resupply. This could be balanced more by returning the combo when you miss, reload, die, only 1 target. Etc. This gives the people that actually can hit a nice toy. For the pistol I really don't know. The pistol is much more usefull for a scout IMO. I would never replace it. Again for the bat, a weapon that focusses on hit and run. Some kind of charge on it. Or a weapon that crits when in your double jump. Or crits from above. There ain't that much of idea's since most scout never use the bat seriously. Let alone use it as a primary like the Sandman. I ain't that good thinking about unlocks, but for me even these simply things are more in the Scout spirit then the ones that are the unlocks now. However Valve typed in the blog post that they did not want to give a weapon only for those that mastered the class. They wanted to lower the difficulty of the class. Such a shame. Although this is understandable since scouts dominate in most of the Comp scene.
I like the idea of a weapon that builds up damage as you manae to hit the same target simultaniously without missing. Might be hard to master but would give an interesting twitch and challenge. As for the sandman replacement, personally my biggest scout sorrow is getting burned. So maybe some baptism bat that puts fire out if you hit an eemy? They probably won't do this sine they already got the weapons out, but one thing I though of as an adaption to the sandman and its stun: Stun when HEADSHOT (so hitting feet doesnt count) and just damage if hit elsewhere, damage determined by the length of the balls flight just like stun time is determined. This makes it more of a weapon and less of a stun-spammer, I think this would greatly reduce the nooby-use of running around with your sandman as primary. Think we can get an agreement here?
Headshot stun is fine IMO, I would accept the stun way more if that was the case, since it takes skill. Making a complete unlock to counter one class sounds a bit harsh though. And for the pyro thing, try weapon heckling him. Same goes for those nooby airblast pyro's that wait for you to shoot a rocket.
The Shotgun is for the Pyro more a mid-range weapon and is used as finisher. As soon as you can't hit the enemy anymore with your Firespitter, put out your Shotty and give them the rest. So in case they still don't die, at least the Afterburn will take care of it. The Pyro doesn't need a longe-range weapon. Especially one which just delays the enemy team and does not kill. Of course it always happens that you actually manage to kill an enemy, but then he was most likely just low on health or to stupid to look for a healing source or water. Bottomline: If you want to snipe, just swap to Sniper instead of staying Pyro.
Well, I think this is more useful than you think. When my team has all necessary classes covered, I just switch to pyro for some fun; standing near the CP and lighting up enemies at long range to drain their hp so my teammates have an easier time in the front lines. And when an enemy does manage to sneak through I can just light him up with the thrower. Besides, what's more fun than igniting snipers from 100 metres away and having them scramble for a medkit
putting them onfire when they don't expect it and finnish them of with a single blow of the Axethinguisher, followed by a gitaur taunt =D. That is the best thing there is  even better if you do it on a heavy xD
Killing unaware Snipers with Hadouken >>>>> Axtinguisher killing. Just the problem that skilled Snipers realize it fast enough that there's a Pyro charging his Hadouken behind them.
