2 of them said agreed and the others argued. one of them said something again in the thread where in his post nowhere implies that he had changed his mind. Headless flock heh?..You Failed! mweh, one lousy introduction post to get the tag should be fine. like snelvuur said, its already been advertised like that. "want the tag? just say hi!" Atleast it's better than 5.
Well, to be honest, I'd be against it. Why? hmmz, bit difficult to explain. I'll try. There 2 entirely different goals involved: 1. Attracting people to the forums, trying to get them to be active in the forum community and contribute. 2. Having ppl wear the LZ tag as an advertizement of your community toward other players. Forcing people to post (once) on the forum isn't going to work for the average player, really. A load of useless accounts on the forum with 1 post isn't improving on the "quality" and usefulness of the forum. Start first to see it as 2 different goals you try to achieve, and try to integrate the specific problems that such would cause. How to achieve above ? well, I would say: 1. Leave the |LZ| tag alone, see it as a sole advertizing tag to anyone. Dont block it, add requirements or w/e. 2. Like the |LZ.war| tag you can differentiate for admins, and forum reg's and donators. Like for instance |LZ.adm|, |LZ.vip|, |LZ.reg| (in order: admin, donator, forum regular). This you can enforce, and will be something you are vigorous on. 3. In order to have the ".reg" or ".vip" one must be registred at the forum, that person has already found the website (an achievement itself), have couple posts / donated some. 4. Attract ppl for the RIGHT reasons to your forum, like something rewarding to the players, that is optional, and does not break gameplay, for instance some fun commands that .reg or .vip players can do to themselves. Some can for example only be done before the round starts or w/e. Like on ASBO there is a "rocketjump" feature that lifts the player in the air and let 'm fly around a bit for Premium users. Just stupid stuff, that will make ppl WANT it, instead of forcing things. Especially if you let ppl post idea's on such and try to get 'm for 'm. By posting their idea's they will start to become community members and be active on the forum.... The golden rules for such: - must not affect gameplay in whatever way, or only in setup time or after round win. - The more stupid it is, the more they want it. Really, the times the premium users on asbo set themselves on fire, go flying in the air and explode or set 'm selves "drunk", you'd almost believe they are griefing themselves. The rule of not changing gameplay is really a strong point, as soon as you cross it, you will encounter loads of problems of keeping the playerbase. As they say in dutch: You catch more flies with honey then with vinegar. (Je vangt meer vliegen met honing/stroop dan met azijn). We on ASBO cannot allow players to wear the tag, due the nature of our event server. One of our admins writes the plugins, and integrates the plugin with the forum etc. Be prepared to a change of playerbase then tho, cos it attracts different players that enjoy such stuff and still play. The regulars who know about this stuff know that the gameplay wasn't changed and will still play. But players who join the server and see all this will think things have changed also in gameplay, the only way to keep those is making clear to them no game rules where changed.
The thing is, i didn't want to ruin the fun.. but... With this setup we have a forum account with a correct steam account. When/if we want to do something for donating people we have a way that links there account to the steamid and which makes us possible to do more "funky" stuff with it. regulars play on our servers and wear the tag.. but if they wear the tag and never play somewhere else its not a commercial either. Dont get me wrong, i like all our regulars and its a good thing they are here.. The thing is, and i know like nobody else (i think) is that with chances people complain. Doesn't matter what i come up with it with always rub against somebody's hair. This would also make us "different" then other communities and even though this person only makes 1 post he can see the forum and notice we have more stuff and might be interested in more. Something a person would perhaps never do. You can also turn it around.. "hey i have UNREG, but you dont.. how do i get this?" which basicly tells the guy the RULE we have in place for a person to get the tag.
I played on your event serv Datastorm and it's true that the premium features can be attractive. But it's much easier to add those features on an event/trade server than on a regular server. If we add the jetpack/rocket thing on the server there will be some people begining playing with this around a corner therefore ruining the game experience (unbalancing the teams, showing their super giga uber powers and so). I still agree about the fact that making the forum more attractive in game would help. But easier to say than to do. Not really fond of the |LZ.somethingelse| thing tbh, lz and lz.war is fine. Admins dont have different tags ingame. BTW the things about flies and vinegar is also told in France ^^'
*sigh*, we really need a tutorial for people how a forum works. Some guy bumped five threads in the anouncements section, I wonder why?
Yeah.. why would that be. Just read a couple of post of one guy but so far it stopped when he reached 6 posts
Anyway, those are the people who shouldn't be in the forum, it's their fault we are having this argument right now!
I said: non game changing features. the rocket thing of ppl flying around.... if thats before round start, it would hurt nobody, cos valve made the separation enough so nobody can jump from 1 side to the other. The ONLY possible downside would be on cp_GravelPit, so they dont stand all in front of the exit to B.
pretty funny the saxtoner server is filled with "UNREG" users now.. It really tells you how many people just dont come to the forum.
nope, necrofor just needs to change his steam id into a STEAM_0:X:XXXXXX thing instead of ''necrofor-is-watching'' i made the same mistake :?
No offense, but you'd of thought that the: Steam ID: * Please fill in your Steam ID in the form: STEAM_0:X:XXXXXX (number of digits will vary). If you do not know this, please go to <a class="postlink" href="http://steamidfinder.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://steamidfinder.com/</a> to retrieve it! Would be pretty obvious? It also gives you the starting STEAM_0: in the box :|
