The PL server is having some serious problems recently. The problem is that the best case map rotation is Goldrush - Badwater - Thunder - Upwards - Goldrush... and people tend to quit more and more on any maps but Bw and Gr. (Especially thunder seems to induce quite a lot of quitting lately) If other maps get voted (especially plr), the server empties even faster, which is a pity. The map voting system would need an overhaul (allow gr&bw to be played more often, then you have less maps played but at least some people on server) and the new balancing tool is also quite suboptimal imho (If i get a phonecall and wanna go spec for a min, it often doesnt let me "For shame! restack", even if I'm on the winning team). But my opinion of that is distorted by my general hate of autobalance I have to admit.
changed some things, for some reason hoodoo wasn't in the vote. could you give me a list of what maps DON'T work on the server (sucking the server dry, bad layout, etc.) and do you have any suggestions for custom maps? seeing there are only 7 stock PL maps (or do PL-players hate varaity) let me know if the vote is better atm (and tips are always welcome) *note the changes PROMOTE goldupwater in the way that custom/plr maps won't make the vote under 18 players*
Well, I think what you did helped, but not as much as would be necessary and I got to admit I'm quite a noob when it comes to those mapdecision mechanics The problem seems to be that democracy stopped working recently. For example today, the majority chose a plr map, which made some people quit and in the end server died, but thats nothing new. It would be awesome if Valve would release 2 new awesome pl maps, then we'd have no problems. My opinion of the maps Gr / BW no problem whatsoever, people stay Up usually the same Swift a few quit but most stay on and usually server survives well unless it comes on too often Plr maps lead to several people quitting and if not enough new people join server dies. Don't know if that changed recently, but one prob with pipeline for example was that you got to do all stages 2 times usually and the 1st time its alright, but afterwards it gets annoying and hightower takes often 5-6 rounds before mapchange and is a map that really often leads to stalemate situations other custom maps: some are quite nice imho, but they all are quite dangerous for the server out of obvious reasons^^ Some time ago pl was almost 50:50 goldrush/badwater , because one of em always was in the votes. Of course this was not as nice, because you didnt play many other maps, but the people usually stayed. I guess in the end you need to find a good equilibrium between those 2 and the rest of the maps (more then now, but not only those 2) Hope I was somehow helpful! custom maps always where a big problem... the allmaps kinda get it going (swiftwater runs like a charm there, and some CP maps that don't do that bad) well i suggested way back to pull the PLR maps from the vote but most people denied that those maps suck... well it's common knowledge that PLR maps SUCK and hightower being even worse then the old one... 9/10 times it ends in a campfest untill the map ends by itselfe. i lost a few matches on hightower once where we pushed the cart ALL the way to the top but got killed the last sec. and after a lot of BS camping they pushed their cart up our tower and then it just became a 2-sided campfest. i don't like playing on the PL server for one (1 because of PLR, 2 i HATE thundermountain and 3 i like 5 CP over PL) most people that visit the PL server just want to play goldwater... nothing else
Hell no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People also like swiftwater a lot. Hoodoo is quite popular too.
and on a side-note there's a new version of swiftwater (think i'm going to test it and run it on the AM server(s) first)
Make a map-testing event, only customs no one plays. From custom maps I've played swiftwater and frontier so far, and maybe something that got rtv'd before anyone touched cart.
The mapvote with Gold/water may need to be tweaked slightly, was playing badwater the other day and the map vote came up, 2 customs and badwater were in the vote, even though we were playing badwater ^^
That already has been fixed yesterday ^^ For some stupid reason badwater was in the vote config twice.
I must say that I would like to see Barnblitz and that plr_Nighttower map (which I didn't even know until now) more often. 99% the Payload-Server is goldrush, upward and badwater.
