all I do, is have an unusual trade up on tf2op and they started swarming at me. If steam had an option to disable friend adds all together I would really consider enabling it by now and just requesting everyone to send me a trade offer. ofc I could just straight up decline every adds, but they still manage to spam me without me even accepting them (for instance the 3 messages I got throughout the night).

Yep. People which are in the same group as you can send you messages without adding you. Talking to some of my steam friends we figured it might be the tf2outpost steam group where the spam comes from, but ofc every bigger public group can be abused to spam these links. Somehow glad I never joined the outpost group so they have to at least add me ^^.

For me personally it all started as well with putting up my petty 16 key unusual on outpost. Since that day (and it's been a while since I sold it) I can post a trade offering a crate #57 and will get 3-4 phisher adds.

Only on groups with less then 50 members.

and anyways, they can open a trade with you and cancel the trade, and without popping up a "do you consent to talk to ..., who is member of group ..." you get to directly chat with them....

Oh, didnt know that with under 50 people. Still seems strange that these adds are coming out of the blue really. If they came from groups with less than 50 members chances would be that people recognize the hijacked accounts.

Pretty sure that's a UI limitation. If these phishers use a SteamBot, they can probably contact you regardless of the common group member count

That might be, I would not know if it can be circumvented with steambot. But I'd not promote ppl to leave all groups they are in. The whole point of those groups is then a bit lost.

Well apparently leaving the outpost group works because I haven't received a link for a whole day now. But I can rejoin if Camper still wishes me to collect those links.

Same result for 3 of my steam friends. Not trying to promote leaving any outpost groups, rather trying to help find the source of that add/message flooding.
