You don't know what's inside of your PC? Just asking

I do know. I was there when we replaced the RAM. It originally had two 1GB sticks of RAM in. We took those out and put in two 2GB sticks of RAM.

    Therefore I have 4GB of RAM, CPU-Z just thinks I have 8GB I guess.

Before you go buying anything I would advise you to open up your PC and know whats where. Although replacing a GPU is easy, with the cpu you'll need some thermol paste... just do some reading on pc parts first :p

It isn't that expensive nowadays to let someone do it for you instead. :)

I'll probably end up having my dad's friend or my mate who did Computer Engineering assemble it but I'll learn a lot along the way.

After talking to Killvion the Sapphire 5850 is looking more and more appealing, especially considering the low temperatures it gets and it's quietness. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=sapphire_hd_5850-_-14-102-881-_-Product

That's £205 in the UK and 245 in Euros.

Erm, it has a double psu powersupply... and im assuming that with a mesh computer you bought from stock you wont be able to run it.

See how it has 2, usually 650W PSU's+ have them on, and im doubting yours does.

Also, thats like the same size as mine, is your case big enough to fit it? Plus cooling in stock mesh cases are crap (we have one for the family pc), i wouldnt even think of putting a 3.0ghz cpu and a decent gpu in there just because I know it will get super hot.

Lol don't worry Alias, I wasn't planning on cramming everything into my MESH case. Planning on just building a PC eventually and giving my current one fresh to my dad.

It will likely have the GTX460 or a Sapphire in it, the i5, new RAM, a larger PSU (prob 650W up), Windows 7 and a cooling unit and of course a bigger case with 2-3 fans on the outside..

Well if your looking to save money look at the Antec 300 (£40 - best for that cheap price)

Its not the sexiest case, however it has a top 120mm fan like mine (Antec 900) and and a back fan. It doesnt come with any front fans but you can buy them for like £2 each off amazon (I have like 2 spare aswell), then just connect them to the molex adaptors.

Also with a psu, I would consider getting a modular one, where you can pull the connections from the psu (so much easier to have). A 650w psu would be more than enough power, just you need it for the double power adaptor for the gpu.

Where do you live btw? Cant remember if it was near me because i'd happily put it all together if you needed any help lol

West Yorkshire, Hebden Bridge. It's in between Manchester and Hebden, near the town of Halifax.

Cheers for the offer :) Would be good to meet one of the LZ members too. First I've just got to save up all this money to make it....fingers crossed I get enough from my birthday, Jobseekers Allowance, Christmas and if I get a job.

uhm, deeply sorry to interrupt Alias, but you've got the wrong picture. You have the 2GB version of the card, that's about 100€ more expensive. I and probably zippy are going for the 1GB version, and that only requires a 500W supply.

The 1GB will still have the 2 connectors on it though.

If you are going to buy fans to fill up a case, then NEVER buy cheap ones, its likely they will be noisy as hell and blow less air than my dead grandma

Yah, im pretty sure the 1gb one will have 2 connectors aswell... I have a 512mb card and that has 2 connectors...

And I have cheap fans, they work fine haha, can change the fan speed aswell :)

it has 2 indeed, but you need far less power. is there a problem with the dual 6 pin? do I need extra things in order to be able to use it?

Mmm, well when I was testing a mates computer I put my GPU in his PC which only had one power connector.

The PC turned on (so his gpu was frazzling it) and the pc booted but but beeped at me because there wasnt enough power going to the gpu...

So if it has 2, you need 2. And he had a OCZ 600W psu

Yeah if you dont have a modular one then you wont be able to do anything as if it doesnt have an extra gpu lead then you need a new psu aswell.

If its a modular psu you could most likeley buy a cable for it

    2 things:

    1) how the hell do I find out if my PSU is "modular" ?

    2) The GTX 460 also has a 2x 6pin connector so would have the same problem.

I'm also thinking of replacing my old current 2x GeForce 9600 GT SLI for 2x GTX 460 SLI, or two GTX 470 in SLI?
Hm... hard choice :p I guess I'll just wait 'till the prices drop

See how the wires are already intact?
You can buy extra wires and crap (so another gpu wire).

However, I dont think you can run them on one 6-pin from my experience. I COULD be wrong though.
