i've seen a few of the rocket launchers going for 2-3 refined tbh... I always check the craft list when something new comes out

The Secondary Fire on the cow mangler will ignite anyone it's shot at, it's also slows you down.

A way bigger problem in my opinion is the too damn high particle/polygon count the mangler has:
One projectile peaks at 4k polygons, not counting the 2k+ impact and 1k+ misc effects on the weapon.

In comparison: Pyro has 4197 polygons; when firing one rocket, you're literally firing a burning pyro (from the engine-load point of view)

look at net_graph 3 while some guys spam the mangler :(

So, aside from being unfitting and OP, it also makes the game preform worse?

    Blacklist dat shit.

The shotgun would have been perfect for a dissapping pistol for the engineer instead of soldier weapon, by the way.

Well, the polygon count isnt too high in comparison:

Eric was speaking about the projectiles, not the weapon. So unless the model is very light, this means a huge nb of polygons for the whole weapon.

And models are there permanently, projectiles only when firing.

The weapon model per se isnt the huge problem, the fired projectiles are.
Look at a regular rocket projectile: it's --! 1/16 !-- of the mangler projectile in raw polygon count,
also, that crap ton particles of the trail are a serious rendering issue (resulting in lag/stuttering/choke whatever you wish)

    edit: particle fix inc:

    still no polycount fix though

I always read the same rage after an update.

I agree, these items are far from fitting TF2's style, but its not like this would make the game any worse.

It's the first non-melee weapon that doesn't fit the style though, that's a new low

well, you -could- argue, that it fits the style:

    <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-futurism" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-futurism</a>

this kind of technology was very popular in the tv-series/movies back in the 1950s/1960s.

But yes, im not that happy about valve's decision either

Dude, it has a big disadvantage. By no crits, they really mean NO crits. Not during a kritzkrieg, not during round end!

Also the projectile looks a lot like a crit rocket if you ask me.
