Bah, looks like I need to rephrase my sentence: Why is the first page with images that appears in google when you type in "Team Fortress 2 birthday mod" an israreli site?
went to images, tried it, still didn't get an foreign site, just american. Picsicio.us Google, You have failed me for the last time. xD
I dont understand why that fix would need to be downloaded by clients, surely its the server that does this. Also why would a few lines of code be 43MB? D: I was puzzled by this as well.
Aargh, not the image search, I just searched for this term in google, clicked the first link, it had no pictures, clicked the second link, and this one had pictures. And it was an israeli site. Hope my description is idiot-proof now. (No offense ) But it might very well be that Google adjusts the search results, depending on what you search for normally. Though then I wonder how I'm connected to Israel. Anyway, we're getting Off topic. @Kittens: Was wondering too. Perhaps they either prepare the clients for the upcoming update or they thought it'd be fun to let us download a bigger file. Edit: Oh, lots of smileys in this post. Shame on me. :doubt:
results are per country different. if in the US, you get per state a different result. as for the update on the client, its actually the client that DOES it. the server just sets a cvar and the client renders baloons, unicycles, springs etc instead of blood & body parts. (server doesn't do anything with that, it only says: player x got so much damage, player y got killed by explosion. even the gibbing is decided on the client (you can set a cvar locally to never gib, always gib, or gib normally only with explosions etc.
Im not talking about the rendering, im fully aware the client does all that, (a server rendering 24 peoples stuff would be FUBARED) But like you say the server sets the CVAR, it's the CVAR calculation that was off so surely the update should be for servers, not clients?
Think valve does not allow the servers to super-impose it. The client calculates prolly the right date, or pulls it from steam.
The serversettings for tf_birthday were off. Just the wrong date was set by Valve ( to put it bluntly) never tried to change the servertime btw to see if that activates the tf_birthday command or skips it
HUGGGGEEE blogpost: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=4245&p=1 I really like the holy hand grenade, but I'm not going to buy that game since I haven't played a worms game for +5 years... (Although it was fun +5 years ago )
