Neither is the majority of men interested in compulsory service, I'd imagine. :p

Course I can only talk for myself, and those I know. Wouldn't have joined if I had had a choice. ;)

It's a different story in Finland.
There's always people who don't want to go to military but I can safely assure that they aren't a majority.
This is because military here is an experience that everyone should experience.

Besides, we live next to our "nice little" neightbours, we want to protect ourselves.
It's probably also about pride. National service has been here for decates we feel it as our responsibility.

It's funny how many people in Germany are against military service, until it actually got removed (now it's voluntary). Now there are loads of ads on the television with messages basically following the rule "We are awesome, please join the military, we need more people, please join the military. Did we already mention you should join the military?" Even though it sounded kinda fun from what my father told me, I doubt it'd be something for me (also have a hollow chest, I know the pain Zano0...).

Anyway, good luck there and most importantly, have fun! :D

We had here in NL also drafts, but a lot of people got lotted out. My oldest brother got lotted out, my middle brother had to go into the military (he absolutely hated it, he still refers to it as "bored to death"), the third brother got lotted out cos my middle brother had his. So then I came (I'm 10 years younger then my brothers), and had to go for the physical checkup on my 18th birthday, and got thrown out within the hour.

Glad I didn't. Would have been only a big waste of time.

Its by now a "job" and they are regularly adverting for it etc. Can't call it "voluntary", for that would mean: unpaid, no contract, like voluntary "work". While its now fixed times of contract duration or w/e.

Same thing applies in Finland. Defence Force advertises itself with these words: "Tee työtä jolla on tarkoitus" which is translated to "Do a job that has a meaning".
Funny thing is, most of reservists speak instead of "Tee työtä jolla on arvoitus" - Do a job that is a mystery" :D

Hello again, I've come to tell you some updates.
A few days ago, I had a medical examination and I was assigned to class B, which was just what I wanted.

Class A = Perfect health, no issues regarding the service.
Class B = Minor health issues, service will be slightly easier.
Class C = Severe health issues, no service.
Class E = Service will be delayed untill your health becomes normal.

But I also got to know that my hollowed chest compresses my heart, which is quite worrying, apparently my mother knew it for all of these years. They said that they'd send me to MRI to be examined further. Also my vision isn't the best to shoot targets that are 300 meters away but for some reason I got the best possible results from eye tests.

That's pretty much about it, the next major update will be in September.

Daym Zanoo. Hope it all goes well, if you want it to. I would love to join the army due to my good aim irl (TF2 it sucks balls), but it would be tough.

    Class D doesn't exist anymore.
If you were assigned to Class C, you would still have to join the military in an event of war.
Class D is basicly like Class C, except that you don't have to fight in war.

Nowadays Class C is the same thing than Class D back then, we don't need so many soldiers anymore, since our current strenght is only 230 000 men.
There's also been Class F for mentally retarded people.

Hello, here're some news that may interes you.

Currently there're drafts in my city, and last week I was assigned there too.
It all starts by showing us some "military porn" or that's what we call it.

Then we were called by our names and naturally I was the last one .

The food that they served there was awesome. Screw the soup that they serve in school, they put all kinds of uselles and fancy ingredients in them, making the food even worse.
Military's soup had only three ingredients; Potatoes, meat and carrots, it was the first time when I ate the whole plate.

Once I finished eating, I went to an interview, just like in the video at 5:33
I was assigned to northern parts of Finland, not allowed to tell the exact location.
It only took 4 hours for me, mainly because I accidently jumped in queue. It took 6 hours for one of my friends.
