A .rar file is an archive (package of compressed files) which you have to unpack using a program like Winrar or 7zip.

drop box is great :p jou just upload it in the drop box cloud .. you sent the link to snell or an other admin ( server axes) and your done! ask in game an an admin and he CAN set the map

PS use 7-zip then do bsp to bz2 so the bz2 can streat to the server then an admin dont need to unpack it and re pack it

First of all do you have one of the source games? HL2/CS:S? That grants access to Ssdk/hammer.

If you do once you have it downloaded just run the game first so the files configure themselves on their own (That way you skip everything you need to do configuring it)

After you do so, run Ssdk and pick the right engine (Should be mp) and game (tf2 I assume since you are doing it for tf2 I assume?)

After you run hammer you can start checking tutorials many around everywhere.

P.S. Yet another mapper who will not know how to optimize :hurra:
    P.P.S Good luck

    Cheers~

P.P.P.S. I have no idea either  Best thing I can do are areaportals...

Anyway, do you know any great tutorial on hint/skip optimization? Because I'm not learning anything from these tutorials with super simple maps where everything is obvious on where to put which brush.

    P.P.P.P.P.S. func_detail alone isn't enough.
    Areaportals, hint/skip brushes, occluders, etc
