Meta, you miss one Sapping tactic.. The Stab 'n Sap. this one is quite useful, if you master it well.. all you need is a engineer behind his sentry while he's busy with repairing it or something else, make sure you have your Sapper as previous weapon so when you press "Q" you grab your sapper. what you have to do is: you have to backstab the engineer and quickly press Q and use the sapper on the sentry before it turns around to kill you..and well, that's it. it's fast, fun and easy And Link, just like all other classes the Engineer needs his dispenser as well, if you keep your dispenser close to your side while you're sitting by your sentry, you have infinite ammo and health health..So that you don't have to worry about the metal or that you need to go to your dispenser for health. and if you're not close to your dispenser, you'll probably have more chance to die at some heavier ambush.
hehe allready did ok i know it's lame but i made 9 headshots after eachother i made them with a sniper
Yea I didnt note the stab&sap because when I wrote that, I was still thinking they patched it out. Link, the dispenser has to be next to you if you wanna live through any coordinated attack. Having a dispenser at your sentry also draws teammates near it, because otherwise they would be to lame to help anyway. If your teammates cant reach your dispenser your base is to far away from the action and is therefor useless. Hint to other players going to play engie: You will all have noticed that if you make your base in a line, by placing your dispenser while having your back at your sentry, there is some walking space left in between. This means the gap between sentry and sispenser is wider than it has to be for you to fit in. step to the side when placing your dispenser and make sure you make the space as small as possible. Usually you will have a lined-up base when you're sitting next to a wall. Keep your back at the wall as much as pisslb.e This way spies cant stab n sap, since they cant get to your back properly.
I tried that today, and apart from the fact that backstabbing while on top of someone horribly failed 3 times, you also make yourself so damn suspicious. Only you as engie and enemies bump into your buildings. So if you get on top of a sentry or dispenser, you're a spy. if you are on top of someone, youre a spy. If you are cloaked and on top of someone, you're bumping into him full time, so you're visible. And if you manage to dodge all that in my experience backstabbing from above still can't be done. but if you say so its probably so. (you do have to aim for the back right? at least thats what I did)
Well I was going to post it anyway but since you explicitly ask too: maybe you should try some more side- and front-stabs, they seem to work fine against me anyway as far as I can tell...
You don't have to stand on top of someone for a long time. And the back of the head is fine, at least my spy-loving brother told so. Pre-scout update spy had more potential for sidestabs, and it was more of a 180 degree that you could "backstab", got nerfed after that. As for frontstabs, that has to do with 2 things. 1 Lag 2 The target is walking backwards, while the spy is walking "into" the target, hitting the back and thus backstabbing.
For me the top-stab still works >_>? The top-stab can really work awesomely to cornered engies, I did it a couple of times for those engies sandviched in a corner with dispense and sg next to them - so far it kept working. You've to crouch though to hit the head. Just sap the sentrygun, and the engineer will have no idea where it came from - then you stab them.
I really, really HATE those top-stabs So yeah, they work, my experience has only been on the receiving end tho...
